it would be ****ing fantastic if giroux actually came into this forum and started posting about himself in the third person.
That alone might push him over $3.5m into $4m territory.
If he does what I expect (60 points... 25 goals, 35 assists) he'll easily get $3.5ish over at least 3. Yeah, he might not "deserve" that kind of contract, but the reality is that is what the market would bear for him, if not more.
umm yeah Giroux doesn't deserve the $$$.....in 12 games he's ONLY registered a point in 9 of them thus far and has looked so pedestrian with his goals....
Seems like he's proving something to me and looking good doing it....
BTW..he's carried his strong play from the playoffs ..so it's more than 12 games that he's been lookin' pretty damn good...

This is a terrible proposal. He's not going to be worth 6m a year for the last 3-4 years of that deal even with inflation. I wouldn't give him more than 45 years unless he dropped it to around 5.5m per. Plus giving him 45 years would get him off the books the same year that Pronger's next contract is up so it "G" is still producing we can use that money to resign him for another 5-10 years.
Whats to keep him from using Carter as an example and demanding 15 mil over 3 years?
Nothing, but the league has tightened up considerably over the last couple of offseasons and teams have finally started to get their **** together as far as handling their RFAs. Giroux would have to really tear it up.
Marc Staal got 3.9M hit for 5 years, for example... a guy that was the best D on his team last year and improving.
Giroux's pacing for 48 goals, 21 of them shorthanded.
Does Lemieux still hold the single season record....I believe 13? Poulin had 6 the year he scored 27 goals. Not sure if that's still the most..didn't Richards beat it?

Richards had 7 shorties in 08-09.
Way to early to speculate on Giroux's contract. I would wait until at least the allstar break before starting to throw out numbers. Kind is off to a nice start this year tho.
I think we are seriously underrating giroux here. I know crazy. The guy could hit 80 points, let alone 60. There isn't to many point per game players on 3.5 million a year lol. Everyone needs to realise that he is going to be able to command a hefty salary.
