Valabik, again

Assuming its re-entry waivers, per EJ Hradek/ESPN.

Poor dude. I still think he has potential, Chara was a late bloomer as well.

Haven't seen him play, guys. Size and scouting reports indicate a lack of mobility being his big issue. Can you some people weigh in on him?

I don't understand why a team wouldn't pick him up on re-entry to have him around as a project.

Most of the mobility issues stemmed from a bad case of EXPLODING KNEES. If Valabik was a forward, he'd be Johnathan Cheechoo.

He made strides near the end of the season and was one of our best d-men down the stretch where we somehow were only a handful of points out from the playoffs (and still ended up with the 8th pick). His positioning, for one, was very solid. He wasn't going to put himself in positions where he was going to get burned by more mobile forwards. Then he got injured again, and his rehab wasn't going up to speed, so we had to send him down because we had too many defensemen to begin with.

He has potential still, but it's gonna have to be a team that's willing to wait for him to rehab completely as a project, or doing it over in Europe, which might mean never coming back.

So the Devils get the first choice on waivers now, correct?

you cant compare Valabik to Chara. I could see Murray taking him if he thinks he's better than Hale.

I don't think he'll ever be a Chara, but the two have very similar career statistic paths. At Valabik's age, Chara was pretty similar stat-wise.

That they do (didn't yesterday)...and at $387,500, the Devils would be fools not to pick him up. You can't sign a player for less than taht.

rangers BADLY need a lefthanded dman for the 3rd pair so the top 4 guys aren't playing 25-30 minutes/game. so wouldn't be surprised if they took a shot on him. not much to lose

Always? Draft position would suggest otherwise, and my memory of Chara as a Prince George Cougar was that he was a pylon. That said, I view his development as rare, and not as a projection for any tall dman.

Wouldn't mind the Avs picking him up with our recent string of defensive injuries. Plus, having a young defensive first guy would be nice.

I meant in the NHL he was always better. Chara was always a decent-good Dman with Ottawa even before he got great

I posted this on the Oilers board:

Quote:
hmm... Funny the timing here. JDD finally gets sent down, clearing up a roster spot. This could have been done any time before now as he didnt even get a game. Then today Valabik gets waived with no intentions of Atlanta bringing him up, but raher wanting to give him an opportunity else where. Atlanta must have gotten an indication that a tema would pick him up before waiving him. We need help on the point, and this could be connected.

I'd be very happy to see the Canucks in on this, but I doubt he'll get that high

Hamhuis - Edler
Erhoff - Ballard
Valabik - Alberts

Assuming Salo is injured because he is always, that's got to be the biggest bottom D pairing in the NHL, Valabik being 6'7 and 245lbs and Alberts being 6'5 and 220lbs

Are you really a fan of the Nucks? Do you really want Big Boris and Alberts manning your third pairing? Come on guys, sometimes a player is a turd and there's nothing you can do to shine him up.
