Insane amounts of shots blocked.

I don't know if theres a record book for blocked shots but this has got to be crazy close if not a new record.

Over the last 2 games the rangers have blocked 66 shots, and very likely over 100+ for the season already, Can they keep it up? or will they injuries pile up at this rate?

I think our real time stats crew is pretty gratuitous.

The Rangers are in first so far in blocked shots with 223. The Blackhawks are in second with 209.

How is this OT? lol. This is pretty relevant to hockey discussion.

And yes, these crazy mother ****ers are getting in front of everything. I almost feel sorry for them. Girardi and Callahan are out of their ****ing minds.

We might be blocking a lot of shots but that means we are giving up a lot of chances. Hank and Biron have faced a total of 363 shots, add onto that the 223 shots blocked... that's in the area of 50+ shots per game.

NOTHING WILL GET THROUGH. Seriously, we'll allow 10 shots per game.

I love it though. True selflessness.

They definitely are with hits, but that seems more of a judgement call than deciding whether a shot was blocked or not. I think the stats are fairly accurate in this case.

And no, I don't think this thread is OT.

To the OP, it's hard to imagine injuries NOT piling up. But I guess that's the price of winning by willpower and guts.

Despite what the stats say, and while I don't think we are the best in the league (Montreal in the playoffs last year...), the Rangers have been doing an excellent job shot blocking. It really shows their commitment to a team first mentality, since taking a puck to the body ****ing hurts.

KEEP IT UP BOYS ! ! !

In a fantasy league with Hits & Blocks, I'm killing the competition with Cally & Girardi in my line up.

Agreed, although they were given credit for 30+ up in Toronto a couple of times too.

They are doing a great job blocking shots, no doubt - but like I always say - these realtime stats are very subjective.

I am loving this team right now. They are doing everything they can to win. I like this even better than the starts of the last two years(7-1-0 and 12-2-1). This doesn't seem like an illusion.

True selflessness. The courage of this team is impeccable. Especially Callahan. He is quickly becoming my favorite Ranger(after AA of course).

For the season we've been in the top 5 blocked shots (including number 1 once) 3 times or so since the lockout...injuries were never a problem. I think it's just hyped because we happen to be first early in the season.

Interesting post.. Thanks..

It did seem this team defense the past few years did block a lot of shots. These figures above just validates this statistic. It amazes me how there have not been consistent injuries during this time. Look at Girardi, the guy is a blocking machine and he has played all 82 games the past (3) years. Anyway, whatever is working, keep doing it!

if ya cant defend em just lay down and block their shots

But really thats a part of the identity of this team leaving your body on the ice wether its a hit or a blocked shot. The amount of blocked shots really is a testimate to callahan and drury to an extents leadership of this team. And while the stats crew is pretty generous, half of those blocked shots were on the road and its really pretty easy to determine what is and what isnt a blocked shot so i think those stats are pretty accurate if anything its probably +/- 5 at most.
