Can't see him getting past Jersey...if for nothing else, it gives them a roster player at only $361k.

I was surprised he got through the first time.

Curious if there is some sort of gentleman's agreement among GMs in situations like this. If a deal is struck that they let a player flow through where they'd normally take a shot

Alberts has been the perfect definition of 3rd pairing d-man this year. Re-entry means 1/2 cap hit yes? That could be a pretty huge asset for the Canucks if he's only used as a 7th dman.

Rome Salo and Alberts are all better options than him, but after that they're calling up Lee Sweatt from Manitoba who's an unknown commodity in the NHL. Depth on D is the most important thing for the team now that Burrows is back.

He was always a player in my mind that left you wanting more. He's got potential and he's got size. He just never put it together.

When he cleared the first time, was he assigned to Chicago? If not where has he been playing this season so far? If he's on re-entry, someone should be interested in looking at him. I can't imagine he'd clear.

I'd like to see Ottawa give this guy a shot. Maybe Phillips can do to him what he did to Chara and Volchenkov.

It's not to hard to crack the lineup in Jersey right now if you play defense.

Alberts has been great lately, big hits, very responsible defensively, he even scored the opening goal vs Carolina.

If Valabik comes at a good cap hit (isn't half like .35?), he'll really help us out instead of Parent & Rome taking up a combined $1,750,000

Hamhuis (4.5) - Edler (3.25)
Ballard (4.2) - Erhoff (3.1)
Salo (3.5) - Alberts (1.05)
Parent (1) - Rome (.75)

vs
Hamhuis (4.5) - Edler (3.25)
Ballard (4.2) - Erhoff (3.1)
Salo (3.5) - Alberts (1.05)
Valabik (.35)

I'd be VERY happy with that as defence, all players are very versatile, have size, can throw it around and (idk about Valabik) but they're all defensively responsible, as well as can throw in a few points here and there.

As for being a turd, you clearly don't watch Mythbusters, because they did that in an episode and it was extremely effective

Yep, if he makes it to Vancouver, Parent back to the AHL ($900K), Valabik, up to ride the pine ($400K). Neither are that good but we just need a warm body for a while.

Parent doesn't need to clear waivers either

Lou, please pick him up. He surely can't be any worse than half of our defense.

He's a PBMD, which is to say he moves well to the penalty box. And often.

He played well last year when he wasn't injured, he'd improved from the previous year. But he looked pretty bad in pre-season this year.

He had some use on the PK last year, and though not mobile, he made decent use of his long reach and longer stick. Although he couldn't play on the PK when he was sitting in the penalty box.

Well all we need is him to hit people, got lots of everything else except for huge dudes who can lay the smack down and stand in front of the net

He was waived at the beginning of the season and nobody took him, less than 30 days ago and he hasn't played 9 games yet so we're set

too bad for you. valabik isn't very physical for his size and he's one of the only fighters i've ver seen that consistently get's beat by guys half a foot shorter than him.

I haven't seen him play, but can he be much worse than Cullimore, Scott, or Hendry? I don't see why the Bowmans won't take a gamble on him at 1/2 price.

Valabik plays like an abused puppy on skates. He gives the death stare, but has played scared since his fight with Chara a while back. Poor mobility and injuries will continue to limit the big man. Too bad.

Valabik is a smart guy, he just always over-thinks things out there and wrecks his confidence too.

Someone needs to take him to Vegas for a week, and while they're partying throw him into a pick up game...and see how great he plays when he doesn't care so much.

Seriously, he needs to throw it into neutral, turn off the headlights, and just roll down the hill. He's got natural talent, and he's actually a good passer too.
