What's the scoring? post it here.

in the first 4-5 rounds draft safe picks, players you know should be productive, later on take the risks

look for sleepers; ie: Lemieux, Leetch (round 4+), Deadmarsh, Samsonov, Yashin, Lindros

late in the draft if you need some quality depth look at some big time rookies like a Spezza, Miller

make sure you select 2 above average goaltenders from good teams

if you're scoring includes +/-, try to stick with the Av's and teams like that with good defenses and goaltenders

draft atleast one stud defenseman, Leetch could slip so don't go for him right away, look at Blake, Lidstrom, Gonchar in the third round earliest

if +/- is NOT being used, I suggest you get a hold of 2 high scoring Defenseman early on between rounds 3-6, there are only around 10 or so that will be super productive

If it's a 12 team league, and if you have a late pick I suggest you start with one high scorer and pick up either Hasek, Turco or Brodeur, those are really the only three goaltenders that will rank high

if you're drafting top 5 I suggest you start with one of the big scorers, look at the little stats like face off wins, shots and +/- because all three will be put up the same point totals only difference being that, of course it's provided that your league scores with that

just remember, draft atleast one stud defenseman in the third round, draft both your goaltenders (unless it's turco, marty and hasek) between rounds 5-9

One more thing, try to avoid picking the Avs early, there just isn't enough pucks to go around for all that scoring

Fedorov should have a huge year in Anaheim, Thornton is another pick and of course the always consistent Bertuzzi and Naslund

if PIM counts I suggest you start with either Bert or Thornton

some sleeper defenseman
Pronger (risk - round 4-5)
Leetch (risk - round 4-5)
Ohlund
Kaberle
A. Markov
Klesla (risk - possible break out year)

sleeper forwards
Drury - playing first line with Satan and Kotalik
Spezza - risk but is playing top 2 ice time, with either Hossa or Havlat on wing, also #1 PP Center
Deadmarsh - always falls in the draft, injury concerns however

sleeper goaltenders
Ryan Miller - only if you missed out on the starters, pick him late late late
Voukun - consistently improving, had a great season last year
Abischer - starter in Colorado
Dunham - don't have to tell you why

Thanks.
I know the basics, my problem is player rankings. I never really looked into it. Stuff like Rob Blake 10th overall or 50th overall?

When would be good to take Spezza? I think he could really be a good player this year? What round is where I should aim at him?

depending on whoelse is available at the time, I would say round 10-12, if these people know their stuff he'll be gone by 12 my guess is

Spezza will be given opportunities and he's gauranteed #1 PP ice time on Ottawa, he could easily be their #1 center by the time the season starts as well

another sleeper is Ales Hemsky who's playing first line RW for Edmonton

Thats my team.... my goaltending is weak... I thought Hackett was gone so I took Scott Niedermayer, I then of course saw Hackett was there and he got taken the pick before me. Oh well. Lets go Salo! 10-team league by the way. Whatcha think?

I guess ill package Salo and a d-man for a better goalie then drop Miller for Sauve so all my bases are covered...

You drafted a very solid team.

Suave is just a backup, Miller has a better chance at starting and is by far the much better rookie also will get more starts.

If Abischer fails for Colorado, they will go out and get a veteran ie: Cujo not give the job to Suave.

Your goaltending situation is fine, Salo is good and should bounce back. Keep in mind, Oilers have a very solid defense, last year was an off year for Salo imo. I also would say Hackett is a downgrade from Salo.

Just my 2 cents. I like your team, good luck in your league.

Thanks, I would just see Hackett as an upgrade because he will win more games but Salo should be okay.

Niinimaa isn't an Oiler anymore. That leaves Smith as their #1, folowed by Brewer. Doesn't sound like a too solid defence (they will miss Niinimaa). So doesn't expect wonders from Salo, but he's a solid choice.
