You are GM, What Do You Do?

So given the choice if all of Leino, Giroux, and Carter have good seasons(Leino55pts, and Giroux and Carter @65-70pts) if you have $10mill of cap space to sign two players what do you do??

Fire Holmgren.

But seriously, sign Giroux/Leino and trade Carter.

Keep Roo, Powe and Leino, trade Carter (or allow him to be offer sheeted) to give the team cap space to form a shutdown 3rd line and boost the prospect pool.

Next year we have:

JVR-Richards-Giroux
Hartnell-Briere-Leino
SHUTDOWN LINE
Powe-Betts-Shelley (unfortunately)

Pronger-Carle
Coburn-Timonen
Meszaros-Bartulis
Walker (unfortunately)

Bob
Leighton (unfortunately)

Assuming we are realistic and can't drop the 3 unfortunates above, the team should have plenty of money to ice a TRUE shutdown, third line.

We could even bring Upshall back.

No, but seriously.... we could even bring Upshall back.

C'mon guys....

Either the 2nd or 4th option. For some reason I can't vote because of infractions (what an odd think to take away).

Is this vote supposed to be based on a pragmatic business decision or a purely emotional attachment/dislike for a specific player(s)?

I think you should include an asterix with a "margin of error" for the latter tendency....just sayin'

I think the best solution would be to trade Briere and keep the Leino Carter and Giroux. Also though he still has plenty left in the tank, the consideration of trading Timonen is something worth considering. Carle looked capable playing without Pronger, I'm not sure how good Coburn would look w/out Timonen though.

Look, this team is overspending on D currently.... the obvious solution is to cut cost a bit on the third pairing and create space for young D to move up onto the big boy roster.

Why does the 4th option have to include NTCs/NMCs?

I'd move a defenseman and try to sign all three forwards without no trade/no movement clauses.

I thought we were at least semi trying to be reasonable with our moves.

No one in the league (in their right mind) will trade for Briere for at least another 2 years (when his annual salary starts dipping).

Very poignant responses. You should really write a letter and send it to Holmgren so that he can fold it up into a paper football and shoot it at people as they walk through the hallway, right before he cuts the rest of our half decent prospects for having bad attitudes and then trades another star for another 7th dman.

Leino is doing great at the moment, but it's not that long ago that he was dumped on us by Detroit in order not to lose him on the waiver wire. He's not had a long period of success yet, so what would his contract demands be? If he would sign a Jussi Jokinen type of deal, I think we could potentially keep them all three (if we trade one of Carle, Coburn or Meszaros).

I hadn't intended to vote, but I was a little trigger happy... Anyway, my priorities of the three signings would be Giroux>Carter>>>Leino at the moment.

As long as we keep our bad-decent prospects, it will be fine.
