Rangers and Pitkanen, Gleason, Daley

In Steve Zipay's live chat today he mentioned the Rangers trying to acquire a left d-man. They missed out on Valabik, so what now?
He said the Rangers may try for Pitkanen as a rental, that they may have interest in Gleason, and that he has heard "whispers" about interest in Trevor Daley.
I can see a trade for one of these guys, but what would it take?

As long as we dont deal a member of the core, I'll be fine with it. In fact i'd be more than fine. Ive heard Glen is shopping Todd White in any potential deal.

Where did you hear about White? probably White, Gilroy in a package.

That package aint worth much, I heard White at the fourth period, which isnt hugely reliable but it wouldnt surprise me if his contract was moves in a deal.

Getting Gleason would be big for this team. Would give us 4 solid defensive defensemen. No more Eminger or Del Zotto on the penalty kill.

On the downside, with Eminger being our "5th" it would force Sauer out of the lineup again.

I like Daley, but any of them would be fine.

Gleason would be a great addition to this team. I think Joe was saying that Torts is a big fan of his during the game against the canes.

Gleason is only 27 and, if I remember correctly,. looked great for the U.S. national team last year.

Love to have him on our second pairing. Can't imagine he'd be cheap; hes their alternate captain.

Tim Gleason yes, would be a great addition

Pitkanen and Daley i am not so keen on

What would it take to get Gleason? probably a lot so even though he'd be a great addition to this roster i am not sure i'd like to give what it would take. I also don't see any reason why the Canes would want to trade him.

Once again, Zipay has me scratching my head.

Pitkanen and Gleason are probably Carolina's best defensemen. Gleason is an alternate captain. Why would they even be on the market?

And if by some slim chance, they were to be traded, why would Carolina trade either of them to the Rangers, a team whom they would likely be fighting against for a playoff spot this year?

Zipay is really dropping the ball this year. This is just as bad as his suggestion that Ehrhoff was somehow available about a month ago.

Gleason would be a great pick-up. Very good defenseman.

I'm not buying what Zipay is saying either.

Gleason has one year left after this one at 2.75 Mil. Good price for a pretty good D-man. They won't give him away.

Same here. Zipay has always been one of the more reliable beat writers (in terms of attendance and contribution to the fanbase information-wise). Really low on the trade proposals and such this year though.

Think I'll start switching over to Gross... don't think I can take too much more of his ideas of acquisitions. It's astounding. It's like he picks every teams top 2 or 3 d-men and says that they are available and the Rangers have interest in them. The Rangers have interest in EVERYONE supposedly. It means JACK ****. Sather isn't willing to trade youth = were not getting a d-man back of ANY value.

Rangers getting Pitkanen = <3

And Gleason would be a fantastic pick up as well. But the cost for either/or would be through the roof.

Daley is....meh.

Maybe the Rangers inquired about Gleason to Carolina.

I can't understand why the Hurricanes would even consider trading Gleason, but if they did, the Rangers should be all over that. He's one of the league's most underrated defensemen. Pitkanen I like, but he would no doubt cost too much. No interest in Daley, he's very poor positionally.

Gleason would probably call for something like gilroy/sauer + a 2nd at the very least possibly even middle level prospect such as weise/byers?

Hah, Gleason is a #2 dman. He'd cost more than our garbage.

A poster mentioned White and Gilroy.

And c'mon, the guy just talks about what he hears. He's not even saying that there is any substance. All rumors should be taken with a grain of salt since none earlier than 24 hours has EVER been right. Sometimes, the nose is in the right area though.

Why wouldn't the Canes be willing to give up Gleason? He's the alternate, but the Caps and Oilers both traded their actual Captains last year. Carolina is going through a little rebuild phase and may want to get even younger than they are. Who knows? If the return is fair, they'll do it. (Sauer, Weise and a 2nd probably wouldn't get it done) My point is that none of you scoffing at Gleason being traded has any more of an idea than Zipay. In fact, you have far less.

Yeah I'm just throwing out the very least I could see. I don't see us getting Gleason because I don't think we're willing to give up what it takes to get him. But I'd love to see us sign him next off-season and put him on our d along with staal girardi rosi mdz and mcdonaugh
