The idea of letting Carter walk because you can't fit him and Leino in is laughable. Sign Giroux, sign Carter assuming his demands are reasonable, bring back Leino if the price is right.
I'd consider moving a D-man, and while I'm a huge fan of Timonen I'd move him in the right situation (they get something back, not a salary dump, and he's willing to waive his NMC). This is contingent upon Meszaros playing like a top-4 D this year.
Another one on that list is Jordan Leopold... so... it's a bit early in the season to draw any conclusions obviously.

He's also minus at even strength, I believe. And I'm not trashing Giroux here, he's been strong... but all of this talk about how it's so clear that he should be a center. Yeah, don't see it. He's been effective as both a wing and a center.... and his high goal scoring thus far is built off the PK and PP.
Sign Shelley to a 10 year 100 million extension, take that Kovalchuk.
all jokes aside though, The most viable option at this point in time would to trade a defenseman (or waive walker ) I hope we can lock Leino up for several years at this rate, the guy is a total work horse, he may be slow, but he brings it every shift and he's amazing fighting along the boards, which seems to be something we were lacking for several games from what I saw.
Although if the rumors are true about the salary cap going up, Holmgren may very well not need to make a trade at all (at which point he'd go off and **** it up.)

Meszaros can replace Carle and honestly, I think we should re-sign O'Donnell and bring up Gustafsson next season. Have Bartulis as our 6th/7th or trade him and bring up another farm system d-man. Sign Carter to 5.5M. Giroux to 5M (4M if he only gets at most 60 to 69 points). Leino to 3M. Let Boosh and Carcillo go. Re-sign Powe and Nodl as well to less than 1M contracts each. Waive Walker and Shelley. Keep Wellwood and Nodl up.

I don't think he's that slow. Hell, I think he has more mobility than Walker or even what Hatcher and Rathje had.
Aye. There was a moment against the Canes where one of our defensemen had to race one of their forwards back to the line for icing. All I could think was "Wow who is that? He's fast" It could've been anyone, because none of our defensemen are particularly swift, save Coburn and Timonen occasionally. Low and behold, it was O'Donnell. If anything, he's done an exceptional job hiding his age with this team thus far. I can appreciate that.
I'm hoping Homer suddenly becomes a genius with cap management and finds a way to keep all our boys, so I didn't vote. All of them deserve a spot on this team.
