Yeah I'm just throwing out the very least I could see. I don't see us getting Gleason because I don't think we're willing to give up what it takes to get him. But I'd love to see us sign him next off-season and put him on our d along with staal girardi rosi mdz and mcdonaugh
I'd trade McD if it could get us Gleason. I think it could work:

McD + for Gleason.
That would work but I don't want to make that deal because 1) Gleason could bolt after the year 2) I'd rather have 20 year old McDonaugh than 28 year old Gleason. Keep the youth and wait until the off-season and pair gleason with mcdonaugh in 2011-2012
Pitkanen's an UFA at the end of the season. Gleason has another year on his contract. Both 27 years old, both left-handed shots. I don't think either player is moved, unless the Canes expect them to walk.
I'd love Gleason, as most here would, but there's no chance in hell we acquire him w/o giving up something legit, like Dubi, Cally, AA, etc. They're not going to take a bunch of crap for him. Teams will be bidding on those players. Gilroy? EC? Sauer? Eminger? White? That's insulting.
Pitkanen will be moved around the deadline imo, unless carolina's in the hunt.
I wouldn't be opposed to bringing in Daley if he comes cheap. He's another left-handed shot, and he's an upgrade over Eminger and Gilroy. He's an UFA at the end of the season though, so unless we plan on re-signing him it's probably not even worth it.
A while back, Ranger Boy speculated Gilroy for Daley. That may have some legs. My lefty for your offensive potential. Dallas gets out from under from some salary and both guys are up at the end of the year. Of course, also may mean Zip is cruising the boards for trade rumors.
Gleason, on the other hand is a top pair defenseman, plays with an edge and has a favorable contract. He would immediately become a key piece of the young core. IF he is available, I'd definitely loosen up some assets to get him. Grachev and a young defenseman?
If anything's going down, I just pray it's just a rental.
if we give up something of value then it better not be a rental. if we give up the talent needed to get a pitkanen or gleason then it better be with the intention of keeping those guys long term
And where is he now? AHL Having a couple in the organization doesn't mean he values them very highly.
He wouldnt trade Gleason for McDonagh. Im pretty confident on this one.
Nobody said word one about valueing but we did net a 2nd round pick so u might think maybe there is some valueing going on. He valued incorrectly on a guy who won';t make the roster likely. He's not gonna put Sangs in the lineup just b/c they traded for him if he doesn;t show he's ready.
Larry Brooks was asked a question in HIS chat about what the Rangers needed. Left handed defenseman. BROOKS brought up the names Pitkanen and Gleason as players he liked. Didn't know if they were available but just threw out their names.

There's always a give-and-take. A young asset is going to have to go at some point. I'd be very interested in what it would take to get Gleason out of Carolina. Maybe Pitkanen as well, though he'll be a rental.
Gleason would probably call for something like gilroy/sauer + a 2nd at the very least possibly even middle level prospect such as weise/byers?
Wow.. I think Carolina would be nuts to accept this type of offer for Gleason. Gleason is a very solid top#4 NHL defenseman who is what 27/28 years old? These type of defenseman at this age are not the easiest to acquire. I am not sure of his contract situation so maybe Carolina believes they will not be able to sign him and etc so perhaps this could be a reason they might be shopping him?
Horak or Werek, Sauer and the Rangers 2nd in 2011 for Gleason
Canes get a body to replace Gleason in the line-up, they get a solid prospect that is currently playing VERY well in Juniors and a decent pick in the upcoming draft.
No way Dallas takes back White or Gilroy for Daley. They are cutting costs, not adding. It would be more like Sauer for Daley.
Daley's got a $2.3M cap hit and $2.5M actual salary.
Gilroy gives them another right handed shot they could use at a cap savings of $550,000 and actual savings of $400,000. Enough to make it worth their while? Debatable IMO.
For a guy like Gleason it may take a bit more than people want to give up but i would be willing to do it. They may want a young winger to go with Skinner so a guy like Grachev I am sure wouldn't be out of the question...honestly something along the lines of Gilroy and Grachev for Gleason and I would be all over that despite the fact i would like to keep Gilroy but you have to give to get. Maybe throw a pick in there somewhere.

Thoughts?
I would do that in a heartbeat, not really sure Carolina would but I like it.
To me, in that deal the only piece that hurts would be giving up Horak or Werek.
Sauer can be replaced fairly easily IMO. I really don't think that the Rangers organization values him that much based off the way they have handled him over the last few years.
And the pick I am indifferent about.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if you'd have to add in a Byers or Weise to get Carolina to possibly bite.
