Okay so how do we snag Byfuglien from the Thrashers?
There's your bomb from the point on the PP and increased physicality on the back-end and in front of Henke.
I'd love to get him. If he keeps this up, though, he'll command an upwards of 4 mil this summer. But I'd gladly give up a 1st or two to get the Big Man.

No way. Think about the Rangers past 1st rounders. Woudl you give up MDZ + Staal? Kreider + MDZ? Hell, would you give up Staal + Sanguinetti(the only 1st rounder not given time to make it and not)? I wouldnt. I trust Clarke and Gorton to get the Rangers 2 players who will help this team both now and in the future.

Now, if he was an UFA, that is a different story.
He might actually be better than Staal ... /blasphemy
And yea I'd give up a 1st and something else for him absolutely...a long term RD partner for MDZ, though as nails, booming shot, versatility - he'd be great!
Everyone's in agreement that Kreider won't be at BC next year, yeah? It's just a matter of where he's going to be able to play. In before "don't break up the Pack/BAR/Homegrown line" also.

Best case scenario, he goes to arbitration with the Thrashers and gets a 1 year deal and will become UFA upon it's expiration.... But yeah, I agree he'll get around $4 mil and if he can play the way he's playing now, that will be well worth it for his services...

Yeahhh I knew I forgot someone when I re-read it a few times. Doesn't ruin it too much though, just means that we don't have a resign for a 14th forward, and EC takes that spot.

Yea I always do that when I put effort into writing out the home lineup, I didn't notice it at first but I did say to myself that I'd rather a veteran center in the 3c spot he he fits right in there perfectly and I I don't think there'd be any cap problems with that lineup. Do you think kreider will slide right into the 2 line lw spot? I don't know much about him i am confident stepan will be ready for the first line center and I think dubs will mature even more and take on the first line lw spot

I honestly don't know myself. I do know that Avery nor MZA would be a 2nd line LW, and I don't think we have anyone in the Pack that could play it. Like everyone else already pointed out, it's going to be a hole that needs to be filled.
The path to true contenders stems from developing (and paying) a young core, but also from using the Drury/Rozsival money to obtain a true #1 center, and first pairing defenseman in 2 offseasons.

Yea but our biggest need would be a second line left wing which is a hell of a lot better than a first line lw or center. I like Avery but don't think he's used enough pp/pk etc but I think third line lw is where he fits in best next to drury and maybe grachev next year who knows. But a lot of people do seam to be high on kreider which is good.

Our biggest need, by far, is a 1st line center.
If Stepan or Anisimov develops into one, thats great, but I wouldnt bet on it.
I don't know if this has been mentioned or not yet, but if the cap does go up by $3-4 million, and a deal can be pulled for Rozsival or Drury (not that I hate them or the way they play, just would need the extra cap in this scenario, and I realize Drury is a very, very, long-shot trade), would anyone be opposed to throwing $9+ mil, 10-year deal at an RFA Stamkos (haven't heard anything lately about contract extension in Tampa) and saying goodbye to Christ, Gilroy, Frolov, Feds (barring a very low-paying deal to stay), and a couple of draft picks that would likely be very late with a top line involving Stamkos-Gaborik? I know that would leave the team short on LWs, but I believe Dubinksy played relatively well there last season, even if that would break up the Pack line, and I'm sure there are some other options (Feds on a low deal) that could happen, as I don't know the entirety of the UFA market this upcoming season.
