Which is exactly what we need. Could you imagine if Boogaard played like Avery lol

Players that were the policemen in the 70's 80's and 90's were still very good hockey players. Guys from Fotiu to weinsik to Gillies were feared fighters but possed great skils. Fotiu had the best wrist shot in the league for a few yrs. Jonthan and the big bad bruins scored 20 goals a season. Todays goons are ufc guys plan and simple but at 1.6 you better damm well earn and today can be te night he does

In a staged fight with Jody Shelley? Certainly not worth 1.6M per year, and not even worth the league minumum in my mind. When Boogaard goes out and throws down with Shelley his first shift, then gets stapled to the bench for the next 57 minutes, how is that earning that type of money?

You just said it yourself, the goons of the past did have some discernable hockey skills (at least the ones that stuck around for a while). Todays goons can still play a bit - Jody Shelley, for instance, played the actual game really well when he was here - but Boogaard is, without a doubt, the worst hockey player in the entire league...and probably the worst player I've ever seen reach this level.

If he doesn't beat the stuffing out of Carcillo or Shelly tonight i say put him on waivers. I don't care if he gets the extra penalty or not. He's paid to fight..That's it!

If Carcillo runs Hank, Boogey needs to bury him

Except it isn't going to change anything. Carcillo will and still is being Carcillo, taking a shot at Avery AFTER the boogey-shelley fight, a run in with Christensen...

Funny the Boogie - Shelley fight would be mentioned. No momentum, zero emotions. It was just two goons earning their paychecks in the staged goon fight.

Like was said, the era of meatheads is over in the nju NHL. This is the era of a-hole grinders.

I didn't say that. All I'm saying is Boogard is not a deterrent to Carcillo. And never will be to him or any player like him.

Hope you had fun watching Boogaard get into a meaningless fight at the beginning of the game that set no sort of tone whatsoever because the Rangers got thrown around for most of the game.

He did get some ice time when it got to 4-1 though - unfortunately he couldnt catch anybody out there.

CON doesn't get suspended for crosschecking carter or richards in the face early in the season when the suspension won't matter....as if it would honestly ever really matter that he is not available.

Boogard could be the toughest, most intimidating guy in the league, it doesn't matter. Team toughness is what's important. The Flyers as a group are just a stronger team, mentally and physically.

Boogaard did what he needed to do tonight. the rest of the NYR didn't. they put the puck right into bobrovksy's stomach with the measeley 12 or 15 shots they took.

I'm not a huge Boogaard fan, but the way people get bent out of shape about his money is funny to me. We've had what kind of contracts, and this is what people get bent out of shape about?

Spare me the value of Boogaard's contract in a salary cap era.

Is it a good move? No, but for ****'s sake it's not the end of the world.

Boogaard is who we thought he was. I can understand why people don't understand it or like it, but it is NOT the end of the world.

Boogaard looks like far, far less than I thought we were getting.

Never mind the contract. He is taking up a roster spot best used by someone who can add some value.

Pretty simple to me.

Disappointed in Boogaard tonight, he needed to go after Carcillo at the end of the game. This is why he was brought over here. The game was over it was the perfect time for him to get penalized and go after Carcillo for his dirty hit.

Sure he pounded Shelley. But if he is just going to beat up the other team's heavy than he will be of little use.

I absolutely cannot believe they gave him that slashing call.... That's one of the weakest calls I've seen in awhile..
