this years draft

I know this is early, but I guess it will be an interesting thread.

I believe we still have our first round pick, so, my question to you guys is

A- Do you think we will keep it, or deal it?

B- Who do you think we will pick up if we do keep it

That 1st is very important to the team no matter where we pick and there is no way we should deal it. But then again its Sutter and we all know he hates drafting so we might see our 1st go another team for their aging 3rd line forward who Sutter thinks he can heal and bring back to life.

I have no idea who we will pickup, but it is very likely that Sutter will do something with his pick. If he thinks that after the first couple of picks that there is a huge drop off of talent, then he may trade down to land multiple picks in the 2nd and 3rd round. This is a very common move by Sutter on draft day. However, if we move someone like Staios for a 3rd round pick, then I think we will keep our first overall pick. It all really depends on how the draft shapes up, and if getting 2 pretty good prospects is more beneficial to the Flames then getting one very good one. And since it is so early in the year the depth in scouting reports could change drastically from now until then. So yes, who the hell knows.

In before Lunatik quotes your post and lets you know only 1 time have we never had a 1st round pick since Sutter has been GM!

Sutter usually trades down in the first round and gains a 2nd or 3rd... i'd expect the same thing again this year.

It will be traded. Likely for a lower first and a third.

i only say it because its true... and quite frankly i'm getting sick of the idiots that make it sound like we never have first round picks

I'm hoping that we trade a couple of either White, Pardy, Staios, Langkow (if he's OK) for 2nd/3rd picks.

I want the cap space to be able to sign Tanguay, and Jokinen if he performs well, along with Karlsson and Mikkelson if they turn out to have decent seasons. Maybe Morrison, as well... call it a mini-rebuild.

Getting rid of your washed up's, and overpaid odd men out isn't much of a rebuild but more of a NHL 11 fantasy hockey move. Every team has those guys and everyone is stuck with them without taking back the other team's dead weight.

Haha, while I know Pardy's pretty damn useless and Staios is washed up, certainly Langkow if he could come back and play 30 and show that he was good for it / White straightens out a bit at the tail end of the season = 2nd or 3rds right there. The other two are just... wishful thinking.

You want to trade White for 2nd or 3rd round picks. You might as well keep him as he is worth more then that.

1) 3 of the 4 guys named are UFAs...
2) Jokinen has a 2 year contract

Jokinen is not a UFA at the end of this season...

My bad on the Jokinen thing, for some reason I thought he was on the same length as Tanguay.

If Sutter deals our 1st round pick two years in a row that will surely seal his demise in the organization.
