Ville Leino

What's his potential upside? The guy is obviously a late bloomer and at 27 should be just starting the prime years of his career. What can we expect out of him? Was the playoff run for real and if so can the Flyers expect to sign him as part of the core?

I've actually been pleasantly surprised by him in the games since the PO run, I think he's a solid 2nd liner.

I am a pretty big Leino fan, and when he was solid in playoffs, I worried if it was just a playoff thing. Now though, he brings it every night. He is a pretty good passer, and can control the puck with ease. I can see him hitting over 50+ points. If he does, I do hope they can resign him (for cheap though. 2-3 year deal. Around 3 mil.)

That's been my impression as well. He seems the real deal and on a line with Giroux just seems a good fit. I'd love to the two of them paired together for many more years. Do you think if he continues the play that he'd be considered part of the essential core? What are the chances the Flyers sign him? I understand there's some tough decisions between Carter, Giroux and Leino.

sa cyred- have you followed his career? I know the Red Wings were initially high on the guy. When he was traded to the Flyers I was intruiged and when he sat games I really thought he was being misused. But then he got in the playoffs and has been phenomenal. I love his puck control and I do think he's got great vision, he plays a good game.

He is on a line with Hartnell and Briere not Giroux.

My bad. Thought he played on a line with Giroux the other night vs. Rangers. But I was admittedly a lil tipsy. thanks for the correction. Almost works better that way in a sense because both players are phenomenal at puck control. Either way would be great to see them on the same team for a number of years to come.

They do get some PP time together. Richards Giroux Leino seem to be out on the PP lately.

Gotcha... yeah that makes a lot more sense. Only caught a few games this season so far... that PP lineup seems very effective then. (Again going by the Rangers game I liked what I saw the other night). Are there talks in the local media of keeping him on the team or is it still more of a wait and see approach? What's the general consensus among the masses among the trio of Carter, Giroux and Leino? Is it most likely a keep 2 of the 3 type of thing or will there be moves to squeeze them all in under the cap?

Well the cap is expected to go up by 3.5-4.5 mil so that will help. Boucher' contract will be up O'Donnell will most likely retire or be gone. It is also a possibility that Walker or Leighton get waived/traded. Most likely they will be able to keep all three. Also Zherdev's 2 million contract will be up.

That'd be a sucess for the Flyers. Great core they have already to add Leino to it makes it even better.... so is everyone in agreement he appears to be the real deal? And what are his projected pts. totals this year and future years? Or is the assumption he's peaked?

If he was stronger on his skates he could be a 1st liner

I like Leino. He needs to shoot the puck a bit more though.

Is it safe to say then his peak might be a 2nd line player who plays valuable minutes on the PP? He was definitely a great pickup by the Flyers and you would think his game would suit the Red Wings puck-possession style to a T, yet he seems to have found a niche with this team.

He's been so good defensivley this year it's frightning. He always seems to win the puck on the boards.

Against the Rangers, Leino was on a PP line with Giroux and Richards, so maybe the confusion stems from there. However, Briere was also suspended that game and didn't play.

So, Leino. From what you've seen from him this season, is he a 50, 60 or potentially 70 pts player?

Thanks!

I don't think he has the goal scoring ability necessary to hit the 70 point mark. I'd say 50-60 points could be a fairly typical year for Leino though.

I'll say it right now:

Leino is the replacement for Gagne. Book it.

He'll hit 20 plus goals this year I think.

That plus the fact that he brings it in the POs makes him golden.

Leino as a Gagné replacement, that's a bold prediction!

How so? Their styles of play are completely different.
