O'byrne is 28!!?? wow Thought he was 24 or something.

It just means that they don't plan on sending Picard back to Hamilton. They never said he would never be scratched.

He's 26. At least they could have played him and built up some value and made a deal. Geez. What a waste. We'll be feeling it come playoff time when teams are kicking our butts and winning pucks everywhere, as per usual.

I don't get it, you want these guys to live in a hotel for the whole season?..
We're talking about moving into an apartment..Did anybody think Eller, Pyatt or Picard would be in the AHL??..Of course not.
I fail to see how this changes anything for O'Byrne. He's in the exact same situation before.

Yes I can see a Norris trophy in his future, he just needs to get out of Montreal.

I just think he was mishandled here...that's all. Nothing new.

Also, when you look at certain d-men on this team...could you really say they've played better than O'Byrne? He's far and away the most physical d-man....can fight as well. He just has no confidence right now.

He'll go to a team that will know how to use him. Seems like a good guy so hopefully he'll find his way somewhere else.

Lastly, what makes you think management will be able to handle Tinordi properly? Unless you're an extreme talent like Subban, you're going to be hard pressed to make it here. Guys who have the talent but need to be molded a bit struggle here...there's a reason why young players struggle here then go to other teams and turn into the player we wanted. This isn't a conincidence.

Why is everyone jumping to the conclusion that he's going to be traded? OB wasn't asked to get a place because he already has one here. Ill freak out once he gets traded. If it were up to me I'd have him play in Hamilton to regain his confidence.

What about Gomez? Any word on whether he's bought a home in Hamilton yet?

That excuse is getting very very annoying. Every single time a player on this team with potential doesn't live up to his potential he is "mishanlded". I like Obyrne, i would like to keep him for another year. But he had his chances.

Exactly, and O'Byrne was here for the full season last year...he might (probably) already have an appartment?

But doesn't the fact management told Picard to find a place mean he's at least going to be here for the near future?

That would leave us with 8 D, hardly an ideal situation for a guy like O'Byrne.

Maybe it's not necesseraly with O'Byrne, Habs are realising that their D are old and slow and they'll need replacements sooner than ever. Next year Hammer and Gill are UFA and hopefully they'll find another place for the Distateronator Spacek. Some they will need young legs.

Now, I wouldn't be surprised.
he's a nice depth player, with a bad season start ... great player to ADD to a trade... but not a player I see getting traded on his own.

OB has never improved as a player though. He's simply not good enough to be on this team as an everyday option.

Why not develop OB as the big Chara like body in front of the opposition net on the power play and use him as a fourth line winger when the flyers come to town? We don't have alot of 6'5" physical pressence like players.

Guys, this doesn't mean the end of O'Byrne. Sure, it could mean that. But at the same time, it's not unlike us to carry 2 extra defenseman instead of 2 extra forwards. We've done it quite a lot in the past. I wouldn't be surprised if thats the case for this year as well.

he wouldn't be the 1rst dman to reach nhl caliber at the age of 30, although I think he is already a 3rd pairing dman.

It's amazing the fear that some of you have the moment we discuss the possibility of trading a 'young' player (26 is not THAT young)... don't worry we won't always get burned!

In some cases, it is perfectly acceptable to move a guy of his caliber...He is nothing more than a 6th or 7th d-man.

I wouldnt be surprised if OB finds a permanent role elsewhere in the nhl. He doesn't have to look far to find inspiration. Hal Gill was another big d-man who really didn't hit his peak until 32/33 years of age.

I dont know if it will take OB that long, but he'll be an nhler for years to come imo.
