Uh-Oh Cheechoo

Here's a screenshot of his latest stats with the Worcester Sharks of the AHL...the San Jose Shark's AHL affiliate.

Is it just me, or does it look like Cheechoo might be playing for the sharks very soon? Am I just panicking too quickly?

At league minimum I thought he would be a solid 4th line plug in the NHL

There are lots of players who can put up big numbers in the AHL but don't have the speed to be useful players in the NHL.

If they run into injuries then I could see him getting a chance,

I wonder if the Rangers have an Uh-Oh Corey Locke thread on their board.

They might, they might not. lol...

But Locke is not a NHL sized player, and has 3 games in the NHL. Cheechoo was the league's scoring leader a few years ago.

Is he signed to a two-way contract with the Sharks?

He was good in Binghamton when we sent him down too. It doesn't translate to the NHL.

Why would any 'panic' at the prospect of Cheechoo's success?

Because, now with Cheechoo bough out and playing in the Sharks organization we traded Heatley + a 5th for Michalek + a 2nd

EDIT: I know we would have still traded him, but we could have gotten such a better return...

Whether or not Cheechoo plays for the Sharks again has no bearing on the trade. Either way he will never play another game for us.

That's what I came here to ask.

We should be happy for him if he manages to find his game.

Not really heatleys value was very low.

If he got a little more speed from his injuries healing he could be an NHL player again. At near minimum salary he could be an effective 4th liner that could fill in on a scoring line or PP at times. He is still pretty young, if he has a good AHL season he might crack a teams roster again in the future, if he is healthier and gets a little more speed than he showed in Ottawa.

Didn't he start with like 7 points in his first 3 games? It looks like he's really slowed down.

I'm positive that he signed with the AHL team itself therefore can't be called up to the Sharks.

The sharks could just sign him if they wanted to call him up...

A few years ago, six to be exact and a number of major operations. Unfortunately his skating speed and balance never returned, and neither was ever great to begin with.

Not sure I agree with Fuhr that he could even play fourth line minutes, unfortunate ending for an apparent truly nice guy.

I dont know, honestly his skating sort of seemed like it always was - what seemed terrible was his shot. i cannot understand how a guy with that shot could have ever scored 50.
He got to good locations, made smart plays and then would shoot a 4th line grinder ECHL shot.

that to me was his biggest problem.
