This board makes me wanna swallow a sawn-off every couple days. I like the idea of sitting JVR down for a game or two - I think he needs a breather to clear his head - but I don't know where these "soft" comments come from. JVR played really well in training camp, pre-season and he continued to play well for the first few games of the regular season. It's been only recently that he's looked a bit lost out there, but hey, that happens with 21 year old players from time to time, especially ones as raw as JVR.

Wait, I dont know enough details about him, but isnt JVR big and strong enough to become a PF???

Yes, but people around here tend to believe the only style PF is Owen Nolan.

He'll be more like Carter on the wing, big and strong but inconsistent physicality.

Good. We're in the business of winning hockey games, not coddling young players.

B-A-N-G !!

the faster JVR realizes that the more $ the Flyers are gonna offer him on his next contract.....I'm pretty sure that's how that all works

JVR plays his best when he is trying to make the team, hopefully this lights a fire under his ass, and gets him moving.

I am indifferent to this benching. It isnt for a lack of effort or lazy play. I think you need to let him work through it and eventually one will pop in. Then again sitting a game will allow him to think and watch. Still makes me laugh that shelley gets a pass again.

He is, but being a "power forward" is about mentality and he doesn't have it. Doesn't mean he can't be a very good player.

Yeah at least he has been trying and playing hard. I am intrigued by the idea of trying him on RW to force him to carry it in the zone differently

If you consider healthy scratches a determinant of a players quality, then so far Shelly > Nodl, Zherdev, JVR and Carcillo.

Any chance he becomes available after season?

Would love to have him on Hawks going forward

I doubt it. We are low on wingers already, and he should be a gem eventually

He has been excellent along the wall on the cycle, but REALLY needs to start taking the puck into the middle of the ice and/or jamming the net.

tellya what. we will give you Jody Shelley for future consiterations and call it a day.

EDIT: In all seriousness he really needs to stop it with these college moves. some of the stuff hes doing he could do in college. Hes big and strong enough where he should be able to get into those "dirty areas" No way do you give up on him ager 90 plus pro regular season games tho. Maybe sitting him down for a game or 2 will help him hopefully.

This isint for lack of effort, he works hard and skates his *** off every shift... He is in a terrible goal scoring drought and looks beyond lost offensively.

It's the same problem Carter was going through earlier in the season.

I'm not sure it is so much a matter of being "lost" as it is a matter of getting it into his head that he isn't going to create quality chances staying along the walls and just working the puck back and forth. It's actually similar to the problem he had last year at times... you gotta get yourself to the middle of the ice.

well said, pretty much my opinion of him as well. Would love to see a mean streak come out of this kid (we've all been pining for Carter to have one too, some players just don't have that quality in their game though). Can still be a very nice player for sure, hopefully the team has patience with him - but he does need to start producing.

I was thinking LW Kyle Beach could be a nice fit for Flyers

Beach for JVR in offseason?

Morin has moved past Beach in Hawks organization at LW and it would be nice to see JVR (I like what he brings) on our 2nd line LW spot next season

Morin-Toews-Kane
JVR-Sharp-Hossa
Stalberg-Bolland-Makarov
Smith-Dowell-Skille
