that was a close game/ a w is a w

isles are getting sick and tired of there losing streak, they played us tight tonite.

the refs missed an interference call late in the third. we just owned em in the 3rd, total control. we were taking all kinds of shots. hey good for nodl, we are gonna need scoring depth in the playoffs.

lets take out the caps now. the caps starting a goalie from my province, not familar with the guy, lets lightem up.

Talking about the MSG coverage? I'm watching it thanks to Center Ice, and I think it was Guerin that defused all of the Carcillo/criminal talk immediately. Said something like "a ref is not going to call that late in the game...it wasn't bad at all anyways."

No one said anything about it after that. Pretty good.

Nielsen was 12-for-12 on faceoffs. Flyers won 31% of draws.

Nodl and Bob top two stars.

Flyers would lose this game if not for Bobrovsky.

I'd start Sergei tomorrow too. I mean why not? Kid is young and can take it.

After tomorrow Flyers will be off for 3 days. If Boucher starts I'd understand.

Carle alone saved one or two goals. There were a lot of players that we would have lost if it weren't for them. It was a team effort.

Great game all-around. Really, really like the line combos Kind of afraid that Briere coming back might fudge them up a bit.

Some post game notes:

http://blogs.courierpostonline.com/f...r-islanders-2/

Quote:
Now that Flyers coach Peter Laviolette has the luxury of a healthy lineup, he’s using it as a motivational tool.

Saturday night against the Islanders Laviolette benched second-year left wing James van Riemsdyk in favor of rookie callup Eric Wellwood, who assisted on the Flyers’ game-winning goal in their 2-1 victory.

This was supposed to be a breakout season for Van Riemsdyk, the second player taken in the 2007 NHL draft, but the 21-year-old winger has no goals in his first 13 games. And with center Danny Briere returning from his three-game suspension Sunday night in Washington, it’s a pretty safe bet van Riemsdyk will sit again against the Capitals.
The question now is, who will join him in the press box?

Laviolette has three choices: Wellwood, Andreas Nodl or Nik Zherdev. Wellwood and Nodl combined for the winning goal on Long Island and saw meaningful third period shifts with the Flyers clinging to a one-goal lead.

“Nodl played another strong game for us and Wellwood continues to impress everybody with his hockey sense,” Laviolette said.

Zherdev, on the other hand, saw just 9:53 of ice time and failed to record a shot.
And then there is the issue of goaltending. Will rookie Sergei Bobrovsky, who is on a six-game win streak, receive his seventh straight start on short rest? Or will Laviolette turn to backup Brian Boucher, who has not played since Oct. 25?

Zherdev's leash just keeps getting shorter and shorter. If he continues to do nothing up until, say, January then I won't be opposed to waiving him.

Why are they not mentioning Shelley as an option to sit? He's a complete waste of space out there. We could actually roll a pretty solid fourth line if he was scratched. I feel bad for Betts.

At this point, I honestly believe it's because Holmgren wants Shelley to play because, if Shelley doesn't play, then that makes that signing look even more retarded then it already is.

The Capitals would be the perfect team to sit Shelley against.

Why? The Caps have DJ King. They've fought several times in the past.

True, but the Caps are a speed, all-offense-all-the-time team. Shelley is too slow for the pace of a regular NHL game; he would be reaching even greater depths of uselessness with the Cap forwards running rings around him.

They seemed to be coasting, until Pronger got ticked at the bogus call at the end of the 2nd. He came out firing after that, and the Hartnell-Carter-Leino line dominated a couple shifts to set the tone - and the rest followed.

Got the win, it wasn't pretty, but it's two more points vs. the Isles.

you need wins like this. not every game is going to be pretty. I had a feeling the Isles were going to push the Flyers tonight and they did.
I would give JVR another game on the bench. Wish they would scratch the Superstar but they never will.

I'm not sure how he did this game because I missed it due to my own hockey game but I think O'Donnell looks good, given that he is playing third pairing minutes, but none the less he has been solid and I think he deserves some credit because I haven't heard a lot of people talk about him. When he was signed here all I heard was that he was too old and seriously slow but I think he does a superb job as a third pairing anchor.

Is it just me, or was that Noodle's best game yet? Seemed like he was everywhere when he was on the ice. Even if he hadn't scored that goal, I'd still say it was his best game yet. Wellwood looked really good as well.

Ugly game overall until the 3rd, but a win is a win.

Honestly, I thought the team in general looked pretty bad for 40 minutes. Especially the second period those penalties seemed to drain whatever momentum out of us. Thankfully we were playing the New York Islanders tonight and not the Washington Capitals.

Amazing game by Bobrovsky, Nodl in the right place at the right time. Keep up the good work and he'll earn a roster spot.
