Kane and the Olympics

Don't know if this is old news, but I saw on a Swedish hockey site that Kane is backing up the Russian players about "going to the 2014 OG's no matter what the NHL says."

Is this old news, true, untrue? How do you Hawkfans feel about him coming out saying that (If it is true)?

(sorry about the Swedish link, but I have nothing else to offer)

I don't think anyone agrees with the NHL's stance but the owners. Players want to play for their nation. Fans want to see the best players at the Olympics.

Not even all the owners agree. Caps owners has openly said...no matter the NHL position he will support Ovechkin going

If its true, Im glad Kane said that. Its absurd that the NHL would forbid players to go play in the olympics and I hope all of the league's stars defy the league and go play in the olympics.

Hey as long as they don't mind throwing away millions and risking their career by going without permission, who is anyone else to say otherwise?

It's all noise anyways since they'll be okay to go.

Whats the NHL going to do, ban all their best stars? Even Bettman isnt that much of an idiot. If the players all say they are going to the olympics, the league will cave and allow them.

The owners need to retain the Olympics as a bargaining chip for the next round of CBA negotiations.

What will suck is if some players go but not all, example would be the majority of the Russians.

I understand the NHL's stance. This is going to blow up over three weeks of the NHL season if you include travel. Not to mention live games will not be viewed in primetime. I say just play through it. Call up necessary replacements.

I'd rather Kane pulled his head out of his ass and started playing for THIS team. If he played the way he currently is at the Olympic camp he wouldn't make the team anyway.

The only problem with that is the fans arent going to watch the games if the stars are at the olympics. Not much point in playing games people arent going to buy tickets to or watch on TV.
Its all about money, greed and selfishness on the part of the NHL.

Amen to that. Kaner needs to worry about THIS team and THIS year before he worries about something thats 3 years away.

This is why I don't save for my retirement; it's years away and I need to worry about paying bills right now.
