LA Times, Bill Plaschke: Come along for a Kings joy ride

So Ummmm yeah, Kings are "Cool" again, so the LA Times made “*********” Plaschke do a story on us full of back handed compliments and his tiresome digs on Hockey. If you care to read it ...

I dunno maybe some people might want to read it ... you know it's Kings related and all ... and I dunno maybe to get some cool quotes from a "professional writer' about how bad a goalie Quick is or something ? I dunno

I didn't think it was that bad.

Nice to see the Kings getting more local press, even if it's a bit lukewarm.

Not nearly as bad as you made it out to be. If anything, he was speaking to the people who don't know anything about hockey.

I thought it as a good article. Anyone not expecting this to happen after the Kings rebuildstarted working was either new to LA sports or just to bitter to enjoy that hockey is cool again in LA.

... since he's one of the those people.

Seriously, Plashke isn't a bad columnist and I usually read what he has to say. But, he's a great example of the mainstream journalists who are not interested in hockey. He only ever writes about it in the "isn't this cute" kind of way, which is unfortunate. He usually has interesting things to say about baseball, basketball, or football. When he writes about hockey, it's clear that he doesn't really care about the sport, and doesn't expect his readers to. As such, he gives it very little respect.

Good article. Thought it was Simers that is the hockey hater. Never had a problem with Plaschke's stuff.

Is it me or is this guy sorta...um being really cynical to players and about the team?

"I wander over to Dustin Brown, the long-suffering Kings veteran and team captain, and I'm not quite sure why"

The guy just seems very disrespectful. I think ill pass on reading any of his future work.

Simers does hate hockey, but Simers hates well, everything.

Like Riseandfall said, Plashke just doesn't give hockey much respect. He expects his readers aren't interested, and so writes about hockey with this "sorry I'm writing about this, but it's actually kind of okay" tone. Sort of oozes with backhanded compliments.

TJ and Plaschke both are. I can't stand either of them, as they come across as sports wannabes that were never physically gifted enough to play a game of dodge-ball, let alone professional level sports IMO. Helene Elliott is the only one at the LA Times that gives a rats ass about Hockey, yet she's the one that people here make fun of ?

OK, at least I'm not the only one that sees it

the 82 game round robin 1st round, that narrows it down to 16 team. It is a little lengthy.

The Times has always been this way even back in the seventies when the old HERALD EXAMINER was leading with hockey on the front page the Times acted like a story about the Kings ranked below high school football etc.,after the "HE" folded Mud covered them but only Helene has gave a crap for the last decade or so and as afr as I'm concerned they can keep covering Carson-Banning games, with thw internet and cable tv they will soon be obselete and bad reporting is as much to fault as new technology, most people want to know WHAT happened instead of the reporters spin on what happened IMO

He acts as if the fan base's existence relies on the Kings winning. He's making us sound like the _ucks.

That's what frustrates me, we've consistently had solid attendance despite not making the playoffs for 8 years. When Chicago was bad they could barely get people to show up, and that's a traditional hockey market.

I read the article, not too bad and not too great either.

Kings will get the respect once they get more consistent in playoff appearances and winning. Sure they are off to a hot start, but I get a little tired of reading this and hearing the announcers say , "the Kings are....for the first time since 1980....". Just highlights how crappy this franchise has been for so long.
