I personally dont really want Michalek in the top 6.

Regin - Spezza - Kovalev
Foligno - Fisher - Alfie
Ruutu - Kelly - Neil
Michalek - Winchester - Shannon

All 4 of those lines can get us goals.

We should put Alfie on the first line. He's only had 1 point in his last 4 games. Don't want him to slow down, although he does have 13 in 14, but still.

The less minutes Alfie plays, the better IMO.

Throw him prime minutes when we need him...the playoffs.

Yikes!

MM on the 4th line, and Foligno on the 2nd line?

Alfie/Fish have been slowed down by Foligno BIG TIME.
MM goes hard to the net all the time, and isn't afraid to get dirty.
Foligno is Foligno....3rd line on most teams, should be 4th on ours.

I think most of us have wanted the lines to be Regin, Spezza and Kovalev, and Michalek, Fisher and Alfredsson. Hopefully now Clouston gets that in his head. If you want Kovaev to play, he must play with Spezza. I think that is Kovalev's motivation. While the two have not shared in the same goals, because, Gonchar and Karlsson rock now.

Michalek, Fisher and Alfredsson seem to have the similar styles to be on a line together.

Agreed, Foligno is too stupid to play in the top six. Nothing more frustrating to see Foligno with the puck.

Call me crazy but I still want Regin to center Alfie. If we want this guy to become the #2 center that this team needs, he will have to play the position with good players to get there.

Spezza-Kovalev
Reing-Alfie

Should be the main pairing of our top 6.

The team is finally building some chemistry among the lines. No need to go back to the constant changes. Clouston should be able to see what's worked just as plainly as we can. When healthy the lines should be:

Regin-Spezza-Kovalev -> Carrying the team the last few games, Kovalev looks like a new player
Michalek-Fisher-Alfie -> Michalek made this line, Foligno is killng it
Ruutu-Kelly-Neil -> Always effective
Foligno-Smith-Shannon -> The leftovers, but both Shannon and Smith have made the most of their limited icetime. Hopefully gives Foligno some motivation to get going, hasn't shown he belongs in the top 6

I'd still like to see something like,

Fisher-Spezza-Alfredsson
Foligno-Regin-Kovalev
Shannon-Kelly-Michalek
Ruutu-Winchester-Neil

Especially after Kovalev saying how he'd like that line to stay together the rest of the season. As a second line it worked perfectly imo. Of course that first line might not work well, but still a worthy experiment.

The OP lines are the other good option and probably what we'll see.

Regin - Spezza - Kovalev

Spezza & Kovalev seem to have something; Regin vastly improved

Shannon- Fisher - Alfie

If Regin stays on top and the Fisher/Alfie is allowed to remain solid; Shannon has had an impact this year (surprise for me) and should get a look to see if he can generate more. If he can not; then lets look at Butler

Ruutu - Kelly - Neil

Can't mess with this now

Foligno - Winchester - Michalek

Foligno is not Top 6 and frankly I'd rather his spot go to Smith.

I'd also be interested in seeing Winchester to the LW and Corey Locke get a shot on the 4th Line. He is slower than Foligno I think, but extremely creative. When he's in the opposition end, good things happen. Good training camp and is doing well in Binghamton. Milchalek on his RW makes this an interesting experiment.

You're crazy. Regin looks like a lost and confused infant out there when he's not on Spezza's wing. If we're gonna have Spezza be our #1C, then I'd rather develop a top line winger that can play with him in the future so we aren't stuck with Michalek and Foligno as our top line wingers when Alfie retires. Regin would be at best a marginal improvement over Fisher in a few years if he develops as well as people hope, but he's a hell of a lot better than Foligno as a top 6 winger.

I'll be annoyed if it doesn't go straight back to this. Line 2 was good when Spezza was out. It gives the top 2 lines a chance at have a leader/catalyst which has been a rarity for us over the years. Spezza has to keep playing similarly to the way he played Saturday night which would allow him to be a full-ice catalyst without needing Alfie.

Foligno's no top 6er because there's so little offensive ability in him right now, no shot ability, no vision. His speed is better than it was last year, and his dominance on the board would be a key for the 4th line.

Why would people change what is working. Michalek goes in for Foligno, and Foligno goes to 4th line. Simple

I guess some people think Foligno makes that line?

How silly of them.

Foligno to 4th line.

http://www.ottawasun.com/sports/hock.../16039011.html

To make room for Milan Michalek on the roster, the Senators have returned Zack Smith, who is on a two-way contract, to Binghamton. To make room for Michalek on the top two lines, somebody has to be bumped to Smith’s spot on the fourth.

That somebody is Nick Foligno, who has no goals and four assists in 14 games
.

The lines in the original post should be what it is and that's that.

If Clouston doesn't go with that, at least to start, going to have to find him in a dark alley.

There are 2 ways of dealing with a struggling player. You can put him on the 4th line until someone else struggles even more (a sort of punishment/motivation thing) or you can put him in a situation where he is likely to start producing (foligno-regin-kovalev).

I don't dislike the lines we have now (i've been suggesting kovalev with spezza for a year now), but Foligno was playing great with Regin and Kovalev and was sure to start getting some points. there are too many players fighting for the same spots, but it would have been nice to be able to keep that line together.

This is one situation where i admit CC has some more difficult decisions to make. The positive is that there will be more working line combos for CC to throw together.

I also like this a lot. The only change I would like to see is Smith in instead of Winnie, but I know that won't happen because of the contracts.

I think they played together in an early game or two, either in pre season or regular season and it looked like they clicked right away.
