damn Boyd has been a total mess since he started his NHL carreer. He was a good forward in WHL, but unable to translate his scoring touch at the higer level...

Dont rule out a UFA signing. We might not be calling anyone up, maybe we have a forward locked up...

If reports of him remaining on the roster are true, that shoots that idea down.

You wont even remember this no-impact instance in the history of the habs in a few years from now about some players that were drafted late, got thrown around and forgotten about.

Another great move by Gauthier.

Where are all the people saying this was one of our great off season improvements?

Here comes a 4th line of:

Picard-Pyatt-O'Byrne

Yeah! maybe? Was just listening to Bill Guerin on the Team990 this morn, says he'd love to play for Montreal.

As bad as Guerin is I'd rather have him on the second line than Lapierre, Moen or Pyatt...

I dont see why you would waive him then. If you were going to waive someone for cap it would be eller as he cant be picked up. He must be going to hamilton and someone else coming up.

Now that SK is gone he can focus on his game and AK can focus on his. We got the better player out of the deal anyways, the "real" Andrei Kostitsyn.
I agree. Just that fact that we got a decent player in return means we won the trade. Also, the only reason Kostistyn has a regular spot on the Preds as we speak is due to injuries. Lombardi has been out all season, and better players like Goc and Erat have been in and out of the lineup with various injuries. In comparison, we've had no injuries up front. Both players were fringe guys who were going nowhere in their careers so to say "we lost the trade" is kind of ridiculous. One of them may thrive somewhere eventually, but i bet it wont be on their current teams.
I know the Nashville predators well because i picked a couple of their players in my pool, and i can tell you without a doubt that there is no room for SK in the top 6. And that's with Lombardi and Erat out. This trade was simply a case of two teams getting rid of guys they didn't really need, and hoping the guy in return might take the new start somewhere else as a chance to prove himself. It didn't really happen with Boyd, but at the end of the day we shouldn't really care.

i dont think they expect anyone to pick up boyd on waivers; there has been alot better players going through waivers not getting picked up

There are lots of possible reasons:

- He asked to be.

- To send him a message.

- To send the whole team a message.

- He's on a one way deal, and if he is picked up, the team would rather have someone else cheaper, but if he isn't, the difference isn't enough to waste the money it would cost to bury him. Boyd costs $650,000 no matter where he plays. Deharnais (random example) costs 65k or something in the AHL. The current cost of both players? $710,000 on the bottom line. The cost of reversing their positions? $1.2 million. Is it worth $500,000 to the team, forget the cap, to swap someone in the AHL for Boyd? Probably not. But if some team takes him off their hands, then they have the roster space to replace him.

If Boyd is being sent down, then why was he told that he would remain in MTL? Sounds like a last ditch effort to create some cap space for a move

Yeah for sure, I just dont think they would waive him if they actually wanted him on the roster.
If he asked to I could see that but why risk calling him back up to have to pay half of his salary for him to play elsewhere.

Very upset by this move. I am a huge fan of Dustin Boyd and I have no doubt if he goes to another team he will be dynamite for them.

He has NEVER been given a legit offensive chance in the NHL. He's always treated like some grinder and I never really understood why...The guy has offensive talent, moreso than defensive ability. PPG in the AHL at 20 years old.

I'm pretty sure Lapierre is only playing on the second line as filler. We are calling up a Hamilton guy to fill that top-6 role. It's literally the only logical thing one can conclude.

Martin and logic don't go hand in hand.

Being on waivers is not the same as being sent down.

If he clears, he clears. Nothing changes, except that they can send him down if they want.

Re-entry waivers only applies if they actually send him to the AHL, then bring him back. They have no intention of sending him down, so re-entry waivers is a moot point.

Wow... Does the management think Boyd was THAT bad? This move kind of surprises me, the kid has shown some really good stuff this season...

And WOW at Lapierre (one of the worst players this season) making the 2nd line. What the hell is the coaching staff doing?
