JVR to Phantoms ???? (November 11 update, post #57)

http://www.courierpostonline.com/art...n-Van-Riemsdyk

Could the Flyers be contemplating assigning van Riemsdyk to the AHL Adirondack Phantoms for the first time since the end of the 2008-09 season? Today general manager Paul Holmgren will decide whether to send van Riemsdyk or rookie Eric Wellwood back to the Phantoms before the Flyers board their flight to North Carolina.

Who would you send down right now... Wellwood or JVR ???

I think you gotta send Wellwood back. JVR sat out the last 2 games, and that should light a big enough fire under his ass that he knows that he needs to pick it up. Sending JVR back to that mess would be one of the worst decisions ever.

I hate to say it because I love the guy, but I'd honestly rather have Wellwood up right now than van Riemsdyk. JVR's just not really playing all that well right now and some time in the AHL could help in my opinion.

You have to send Wellwood back. . . guy is looking to be a good addition, but when the entire team crumbles I'd rather it not be with JVR down there. What happens if he has issues with Gilbert. They going to send JVR packing?

Agreed. It needs a question mark.

And I would definitely keep JvR up to give him a chance to show he learned his lesson after having sat in the corner for awhile.

JVR belongs in the NHL right now.
Wellwood belongs in the AHL right now.

That is that.

While Chicago lucked out with the bouncing balls and the Flyers seem to have gotten the taint...I blame a lousy draft class rather than the actual lottery. If only Pitt had such "luck."

are you kidding? how can u compare a guy who is almost a ppg player since he came into the league (at 18 mind you) to a guy who has potential. Seriously we had the worst luck ever in that draft.

Send wellwood back. JvR should hopefully play a lot better having sat. Or hey, even better, send shelley down and keep wellwood and JVR.

Pattty Kane was a more polished player at 18 years old than JVR, no denying that, but I think JVR's size and skill potentially put him in an elite class of forwards.

Well now we have something like this

Leino-Briere-Hartnell
Powe-Giroux-Carter
Nodl-Richards-Zherdev
Shelly-Betts-Carcillo

Wonder who they substitute JVR in for. Being honest I cant see Nodl being taken out for he is actually producing offense at the moment. Also we can all cry for Shelly, but we all know he isnt going to be taken off. Zherdev is also finally moving. Maybe they put Powe in Carcillo's spot and JVr in Powe's spot.

No, JVR won't ever eclipse Kane. At best he has similar value as a different player type, but there's still good reason Kane went #1. Nothing against JVR or his ability to reach his own potential.

I'm still glad we picked JVR over Turris...

lets just not even talk about the Kane JVR comparisons, its just to depressing to even think about at this point.

True that, although I really wanted the Flyers to draft Voracek over all of 'em. I really didn't expect Kane to be this good, this early on.

If JVR reaches his full potential (big if), then I think he'll be a better player than Kane. However, Kane is already there, so that's a big head start. However, Kane is an extremely one-dimensional player, and you add in the size he gives away and you lose a bit of what JVR will be capable of providing for his team.

Now... JVR needs to get there, and you can debate whether or not he will... but for all the good things Kane does, he doesn't bring much of anything to the table in other areas of the game.

everything is true, except i do believe you understate kane's one dimension. Yes he is one dimensional, but he is amongst the most dynamic and gifted players in that one aspect, and a true game changer. I dont see JVR ever being a truly great and gifted player in any aspect of his game. I see him being a good overall winger with size and some speed. Just imagine how great kane would be with a guy like carter.
