predict the next move...

So, with Boyd on waivers does this mean the team stays as is or do we sign or call up a guy from Hamilton?

If there are changes;

a) we sign MAB and dress 7 D or put him on the 4th line,

or;

b) we call up Ryan White

That part is weird.

According to this, Boyd wouldn't be sent in the minors.
Which means, the Habs will STILL have 23 guys on the roster.

That's intriguingly weird. No AHL, but they need him to clear waivers for something.

Thanks, I haven't read reports on the move and didn't realize he might stay with the team...

If he stays on the team than they shouldn't have placed him on waivers; surely there are ways they could find out whether or not he would get picked up. They know exactly the kind of interest each player gets and what there worth is...

Only put a player on waivers if you are confident that he'll get picked up or if you intend to keeping him in the minors... Now the guy has to face his teammates and staff and feel slightly rejected and probably hamper his progression; assuming nobody takes him that is.

If a guy is put on the waivers, isn't he out of 50 man list for a while? (after he passes waivers...).

And how many guys there are on this list now anyways?

I'm thinking of a few things

- Habs trade one player, gets two, but the 50 man roster is full. (Or, the Habs trade a pick for a player...)
- Habs signs a free agent, needs some place on the 50 man roster.

I think your onto something, we are either involved in a multiple player trade, or we are about to sign Guerin

I'd assume Boyd was put on waivers so he can see if he can play elsewhere. If he doesn't get claimed, we have no reason to send him down or whatever.

edit: guess not, boyd didnt know about this till it happened.

The thing is -- if the 50 man list is not full, then it's utterly pointless to put Boyd on the waivers.

Unless they sign two players (or three, or four...) and are waiting from whatever to trade O'Byrne.

We're at 45, not counting Leblanc, Lefebvre and Avtsin.

I HOPE we will recall Ryan White.

And the return of Bergeron is a nightmare

I doubt anything happens, however the Bieksa rumors may come fruitful soon? as NJD are trying to pry him away as well. however, if we were to sign a free agent veteran Billy Guerin would be a good choice and maybe could get Gio and Gomy going? but we dont need drastic change if we sign anybody i hope its Guillame Asselain who was overlooked in the past draft and i believe is now a free agent, yes?

I think they count toward 50 (and not only towards the 80 man list)

If they recall anybody from Hamilton it will be an offensive player, not White.

That pretty much just gives Palushaj or Desharnais, unless they want to play Weber on the wings (or Sanford at C).

I'm on the Guerin bandwagon, for sure.

Oh, and fire Jack Martin, please

MAG in its Cyberpresse video says that given Martin's comment, he thinks that the Habs may know that a team has interest in Boyd.

Guerin was too slow to play with Crosby, no way he fits with the Habs.. Gill on defense is enough for me..

This.

There is no benefit of putting a player on waivers without the purpose of loaning him unless you are trying to see if another club will claim him.

It sounds like Habs think Boyd will be claimed freeing up a roster spot for at minimum a call-up from Hamilton. That's a good move simply because it now gives them $1.4 m in cap space. If injuries are needed or the Habs want to take an extra forward on a road trip, it will be easy enough for them to move players up and down from Hamilton. Boyd wasn't contributing anything here.

Also, MAG's been tweeting that he thinks the OB situation will be resolved soon, which I guess likely means he will be traded or waived.

I like the fact that PG isn't sitting on his arse but is at least trying to address some of the issues that are obvious with the Habs right now.
