From bad to worse? (Shelley)

I need a laugh and I think that this thread will do it. I know we are almost 20 games in but I am just beginning to see all the deficits in Shelleys game. His skating lastnight was awful, embarrassing to be truthful, which got me thinking about cote, his skating might actually be a bit better, but he looked just as lost on the ice.....which got me thinking, Riley won maybe 2- 3 fights as a Flyer but was always a gamer which most of us appreciated and often credited him for during and after the beatings he would take...what got me thinking Shelley hasn't done much with regards to fighting he lost is last two to Englland(sp) and Boogaard for sure and I can't even remember anything else on his Flyer fightlist. So the question is, money aside should we have kept Cote or is Shelley a better fit?

Shelley is a better "heavy" than Cote... so Shelley if you're not worried about the money.

I'll take Cote because at least they would have known he should be benched by now.

pretty sure that was a humanitarian effort to protect Cote from brain damage.

The "heavyweight" days of the NHL really need to end, it's childish. I want guys who can bring some hockey skills along with the fists, and I don't think that's too much to ask.

It's so ****** that Wellwood was scratched, while Shelley dressed. Hell, I'd even have scratched Carcillo rather than Wellwood, but definitely, definitely, ****ing Shelley rather than Wellwood. Talk about how they fill different roles or whatever else all you want. Any way you slice it, Shelley is a waste of space.

As for his skating, my god he's seriously gotta be the worst skater in the league. I don't know if I just never watched him that closely before he was a Flyer or what, but holy **** is his skating terrible. He looks like a men's leaguer out there...like a men's C league...you know, the beginners. Christ, even when it comes to the one thing he's supposed to actually be useful for, I'd rather watch O'Donnell drop 'em. Shelley will do nothing this year but fight useless guys like himself. Useless players wasting everyone's time with staged, useless fights.

There is no reason that this guy should be taking shifts from players who don't suck.

Cote was scratched when necessary, fit well with the team and cost half as much. If I had to pick between the two I'd say Cote. I'd prefer neither.

If you want a good laugh, you should go check out the Shelley signing thread. The rage, fury, and indignation present there are incredibly amusing.

even more amusing are the people who claimed that Shelley would be a fan favorite after a few fights. yeah...about that...

Boogard. Watching Boogard skate is like watching a mountain try to move.

I don't want Shelley or Cote, but if I had to choose between the two then Cote. At least he cost half as much and the coach was willing to bench him almost all the time. Even if he didn't win his fights, it was still admirable how much of a beating he could take anyways. Plus he brought us Holly Cote for a good while.

Let's try a practice SAT question.

Shelley : Hockey

as:

A) Tiger Woods : Golf
B) Carter : High and Wide
C) Crosby : Crying
D) Poop : Cake

I've never had poop on my cake so I can't answer affirmatively.

Once you've had a little Shelley in your hockey, poop on your cake is a trifling matter.

Back in my day, men were men and women knew it. And my hockey players played more than four minutes a game.

The hammer did have a 20goal season and even a hat trick or two. Also assisting on a playoff winning goal.

He could play, shelley can not.

You needs guys like Asham/carcillo, let the orr's & boogards of the world run around taking dumb penalties.

You cannot in a cap world waste 1.1mil on a glorified punching bag.

unbelievable

Shelley is an ugly necessity, can't have a neanderthal like Colton Orr running a smallish guy like Mike Richards ALL GAME LONG like he did last year and hope he makes it thru the year.....
wake up, this is the NHL

Maybe the reason we do not sit him in certain games because of our limited cap space?
We signed Shelley because of Toronto and NYR. I honestly thought he was a much better fighter.

having shelley won't stop that. Orr will be Orr, regardless of who's on the ice. if toronto wants to play him against richards, and enjoy all the goals against, that's their problem.

edit: wait, you were sarcastic. oops.
