Wow. Say what you want about him not being the superstar we make him out to be, but I think that's going to be dirt cheap for what he can do. Great signing.

I feel the same way - I was hoping for something around $3.5 to $4.0 million but was deathly afraid it would be higher.

Great work Homer - now get rid of some dead weight and get Carter signed!!

Also, JVR better wake up now. I had a tough time deciding whether to get him or Giroux on my jersey, and the start couldn't be more different between the two...

I feel like there's a Mike York joke somewhere in here, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

If Giroux keeps up his play this is going to be a steal.

Nodl (????) - Carter (????) - Giroux (3.75)
Powe (????) - Betts (0.70) - Carcillo (????)
Shelley (1.10)

Pronger (4.92) - Carle (3.44)
Timonen (6.33) - Coburn (3.20)
Meszaros (4.00) - Bartulis (0.60)
TBD (????)

Bobrovsky (0.90)
TBD (????)

TOTAL: 46.77
CAP: 59.40 (2010-11)
SPACE: 12.63

12.63m based on last year's cap to get Carter, Leino, Powe, Nodl, Carcillo, a 7th defenseman, and a backup goalie (assuming we somehow get rid of Leighton and Walker).
You cant assume that though with leighton and walker. nodl and powe should be under 1mm, unless nodl somehow becomes scorer. Carcillo around the same though i believe he will be moved. I also see odonnel coming back for the same as long as he stays healthy and plays as is currently. Guess Wellwood is your new Maroon, maybe not as at least he has played an nhl game. Would have liked around 3.3 for claude. Leino will be interesting now.

He's improved (for the most part) over the last year, but I don't think he's all that crucial either. I also think you win with skill and actual hockey prowess come playoff time more than agitation and all that nonsense.

1. O'Donnell said he wanted "one last shot." Doubt that means another contract.

2. Wellwood and Maroon are POLAR OPPOSITES.

Who cares about the d prospects when you have Klotz, Clackson, and Rinaldo for next year. Those guys look to be making the team.

Nah klotz needs another year playing in a scoring role to round his overall game. He will get that shot next year.

Just Tweeted:

@AnthonySan37 Confirming @TSNBobMcKenzie report: #Flyers sign Giroux to 3-yr $11.25 million extension. $2.75-$3.5-$5.0

Which, as I see it, sets the starting year at over $5.0... and the average Cap hit well over that... unless he fails to continue to grow.

That said, I'm elated for the next four years (including this season) and pray for the best in fitting him in the Cap thereafter.

Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer put over Philadelphia Flyers winger Claude Giroux(notes) in an epic way yesterday: How he was turning into a "superstar before our eyes" and using the F-word in a headline.

As in "franchise" player. Clarified for the benefit of our Philly-based readership ...

This evening, Bob McKenzie of TSN reported that the Flyers and Giroux have agreed on a 3-year, $11.25 million deal that will keep him from restricted free agency next summer.

Cap Geek had slightly different numbers and broke down the deal annually as $2.75 million, $3.50 million and $5.0 million.
