Made this move so it would be safe to send JVR down?

Eh, too little, too late. Maroon won't likely be brought back. Between sour grapes and Holmgren having to admit he botched this up, there's no incentive to.

I don't know anything about Paddock as a coach, but he better implement the same system we have up here, and promote the same kind of culture that Lavi does.

Cross your fingers.

If they knew things were toxic and didn't do anything until they needed to send JVR down, that's just stupid....not that I am opposed to sending JVR down. He needs some easier minutes to get his rythm going.....turn his swag on, as it were.

Well Gilbert apparently ran our system. Fat load of good that did him.

Paddock also coached the last Phantoms team that went to the playoffs.

Then we bought in Gilbert and the Phantoms went to ****.

God, so glad he's gone. Maroon was a drain on our organization.

if it were something to blame on the coach and not maroon then they would have just gotten rid of maroon. however both could be at blame so they let the player go first to show no player is above the organization? Again it is unfair to speculate when you know nothing.

In the absence of facts, this seems to be a positive move. This now paves the way for Bobrovsky to be sent to Adirondack.

I hope this brings back Maroon. . .perhaps Homer just thought that it was a player issue at first and he made the move based on what was told to him by Gilbert this year and last year and now that he has spent some time there he realized the situation actually was the coach. It may have been for Maroon's sake just to get him away before something bad did happen between him and Gilbert and allowed Homer to assess the situation without having to worry about a more serious complication happening.

Worst-case scenario: Holmgren's bargaining power to deal Maroon goes up a notch, as he can point to the poor coaching.

As much as I didn't like stevens as a NHL coach, I really think he would be good (and was) as an AHL coach. He seemed to be more easy going, so the players felt a little more comfortable.

But then you get up to the big league, and you have a hard ass coach, so you know, you better perform if you wanna stay there.

I heard that Gilbert had been fired while I was at work..I literally cheered

Makes me kinda happy I got time off to go to the game on Thursday against Toronto. Might actually be an entertaining game!

This is good news, wonder if Lavy has any input on a future hire for the job , maybe someone he knows that teaches his style of hockey and could get that team straightened out ?

So we get a 6th round pick instead of a 7th round pick.

He was playing well despite a poor coach.

What we'll never know is how much an incompetent coach influenced Holmgren as far as the Maroon decision and the "warnings" to Legein and Kalinski. For all we know, Gilbert just had a personal vendetta against them, and their futures with the team are now in flux because of someone who isn't even in the organization not even 2 weeks later.

Would really like to find out what the problem was with those players, especially
St. Patrick Maroon. It will come out at some point. Could have had nothing to do with the coach as they could have had issues off the ice or could be some of what you said or both. Either way the player needs to be accountable and accept responsibility for their actions. As Shooter said, this wasnít the first time St. Patrick has been warned. Still never seen so much love for a guy who hasnít donít squat. Cant wait until he haunts the flyers. Still is odd he hasnít been moved though. What a train wreck. You had to think that Shooter was going to fire Gilbert at some point soon if it didnt turn around. This leads me to believe imo that the coach had little to do with what St Patrick did.

So I guess we'll put this in the category of "the HF Board posters could have told you this last year Homer." That category is getting pretty large.

According to some Twitter posts the Maroon thing had nothing to do with this. Take it for what you will.
