I think its going to be a long term deal worth around 5.75 to 6.

You're talking about a potential 40-goal scorer who has already done it once, and asking him to give up UFA years. He's absolutely over $6M.

Over/under 10 days before Cartsiephan is on suicide watch?

Not sure I like another long-term deal, but I'll be happy to have Carter locked up. The cap hit really depends on the length of the deal so I'm not gonna bother with a prediction.

Anything over 6.5 and I won't be happy. But with Homer you have no idea, so I don't have a clue

Carter doesnt deserve any more than what he's making. He also doesn't deserve a very long contract

I'm not going to like the outcome of this

I just hope he doesn't get more than $6. I'll understand it if he does. But I just don't want him to. Five years, $5.75 mil is what I'd like to see. Probably will be more like seven years $6.25 is what I'd guess. Hopefully no more years or money than that.

He is pretty much on part with Richards in terms of points. The only difference is carter once scored 46 in a season in which he had 84 points and that season Richards had 80. I really think their contracts will be similar

The dynamic has changed with the amendment to the long-term contract rule. Richards is also getting paid for years later in his career that he would not be.

6 years 36 million takes him to 32 years old and that's what I'm hoping for.

I think he gets no less than 7 years. 7-years ~$47M. Somewhere in there.

Getting him signed to a contract would probably make him easier to trade...just saying.

it would certainly raise his value, instead of other teams realizing we're just trying to get anything at all for him in that sort of situation

If we could get Carter at 5.75 for 6 years I'd be okay with that. I'd prefer 5 years, but I feel like it will be longer than that.

5 years $30 million is perfect. If he does drop off after 30 we aren't stuck but have him for long enough to hopefully make some cup runs.

On the other hand if he puts up a lot of points this season, he'll be able to have higher demands. Though that might not happen considering he is currently on pace for 27 goals and 60 points, but I think he will do better than that.

I say he is going to get 6yrs 41.1 Mil (6.85 Mill/Yr).

I am just basing this off of what Richards will be getting payed over the next 6 years.

very true as well. I just think that's a risk worth taking, as with his personal demands increasing, so will other teams interest in him as well which may be a win/win situation. I'd simply at this point after his last 3-4 years really like the team to wait and judge this season, and most importantly in my eyes, his play in the post season before opening the vaults to him. I think his asking price is already very high because he once reached the 46 goal plateau at a young age not so long ago. If he hits 40 again I don't see it making a massive difference in what they're already about to shell out to him, maybe if he does then he can command a few more years?

With the rumors of the cap going up again this year, he's definitely getting around $6.5 million per.

He'll do much better. Now that Giroux is signed, they can move him back to the wing and let Carter play centre where he belongs...

Carter might agree to be on par with Richards, he's always been reasonable in the past. Also, they can throw in an NMC in exchange for a half point on the cap hit....
