How can you compare him to Gretzky? Don't you know that he's just as good, but also a foot taller? Don't be dissing Boyle here.
In all seriousness, he's easily the most improved player on the team, and his improvement is the most surprising too. He's much more than a 4th liner, that's for sure.
The guy is on pace for 40 goals this season. He won't score that much, but if he can manage to net 20 while playing on the 4th line, that's absolutely incredible. Even 15 goals would be amazing, and he's already almost half-way there.
New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired forward Brian Boyle from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
I hope Boyle is out there if the net is empty in the final minute. I would love to see him get a hat trick. Would be enormous not just for his confidence, but for other role players as well.
P.S. His skating coach just increased her fees to $50,000 an hour. Or at least she should. Her star just rose big time. If I were a professional hockey player, I would kidnap her and force her to train me non-stop all summer.
The beautiful thing is that both goals required real hands. These were not garbage goals. These were goal scorer's goals. Not dipsy-doodle goals, but those are some real hands. He's not looking like a 4th liner out there so far.
If he can score at a 0.2 goals per game pace from now on, he'll have 20 goals.
The size of Chara, the skating of Bure, the hockey sense of Gretzky, and the swagger of Kanye West.
But honestly...People really forgot last year how young he still was. He was far from fantastic last season but he was good killing penalties and was acceptable for a fourth line center. This year his game has really improved since his skating has been much better. I think people really sold him a little short.
Boyle is playing with a ton of confidence right now. He could still use his size and strength a little more to take the puck out of the corners / cycle and get it to the front of the net. He should watch some tapes of Flyer Lindros. ^_^
I think Boogard actually looked like Gretzky tonight, breaking in and BLASTING a perfect slap shot.
My dad and I were laughing hysterically when he scored. My dad was cracking up, saying how he couldn't skate anymore so he just decided to blast it.
He really leaned into it, though. Great shot. Happy for the big fella. Maybe he should play the point on the PP opposite Del Zotto.
