Leighton coming back can be a good thing provided he replaces Boosh and maintains the results he did last year. Walker coming back sucks all-around.

Leighton will need to be very impressive when he returns. Getting "5 hole sniped from center ice" as someone else put it will get him sent back to the minors.

This goes back to post #131 in this thread from late October:

http://www.csnphilly.com/12/20/10/Fl...100&feedID=695

Quote:
Ian Laperriere went on the ice this week with his kids to skate and still had eye and vision problems caused by the overhead lights.

He says he thinks the Flyers made right call placing him on long-term injured reserve and now is hoping simply to skate in physical shape, continue his rehab and look forward to next season.

“I really think the lights have a lot to do with my eye problems,” said Laperriere, who is suffering from post-concussion syndrome. He has not put his equipment on since a preseason skate in Toronto.

Laperriere, 36, continues his off-ice workouts without problems.

“It’s just the lights out there on the ice,” he said. “If I were 22, I’d be kicking myself in the ass to get back there. I have a good feeling about this team … I can’t be bitter about this. I played 16 years in the league and everything I have I got from the game, so I can’t be bitter about what happened.”

“I have time. I am going to give myself as much time as I can. I’m not getting any younger but I got nowhere to go.

No rush back, Lappy. If you're gonna come back, do it healthy.

If Lapierrire could magically make it back for the playoffs (hope he doesn't rush himself though) that would be better than almost any deadline trade we could make. He brings so much to the team that would help the team come playoff time. A fourth line of Lapirriere - Betts - Powe would be an amazing fourth line and truly complete this team upfront.

Here's to optimism, get well soon Lappy

Hopin' there's some miracle he can come back. Not only for the team, but for himself. He deserves to go out on his terms.

I wonder if a tinted shield would help him?

I'm wondering if a colored shield, not yellow, but maybe blue, would help with that tolerance.

That crossed my mind too -- anything to have him be able to leave the game his way.

If Lappy does come back he better be an alternate captain for us. He definitely deserves it more than Carter

"It's the worst time in my career by far," Laperriere said last night at the Wells Fargo Center, where the Flyers lost to Florida. "It's been hard. I skated with my kids [Sunday] morning and I still just don't feel right. When I work out [off the ice] I am fine. I feel all right. But when I am on the ice, and I see the lights, that's when I don't feel right. I really do believe this is coming from my eye."

Laperriere, 36, said he still has full vision in his right eye - though it is slightly blurry in one corner - after being struck in the face by a Paul Martin slap shot in Game 5 of the Flyers' first-round series with the Devils last April.

For now, Laperriere remains in a holding pattern. He is listed as "out indefinitely," with no imminent return planned. But he continues to spend time in a hyperbaric chamber and take advanced vitamins to stimulate healing in the brain.

Laperriere has stopped seeing concussion specialists and neurologists, for the time being.

"I don't see the point in seeing anyone else," Laperriere said. "If you see too many doctors, you get too many messages in your head and you get messed up. Everyone says something different. I know my body and I know what it feels like to feel 100 percent. Until then, I'm not doing anything."

"I've tried to be as positive as I can be with my family. It's tough for me to watch, I've never done that before in my life," Laperriere said. "They see me watching quite a bit. It drives me nuts. But I can't be bitter around my family, I'm just trying to be the best dad I can be right now with what's going on in my life. I don't want to put that on my kids."

Laperriere said that he has a "great feeling" about this season for the Flyers. In the meantime, he has been trying to stay busy, visiting the Flyers' minor league affiliates and draft picks in junior hockey to push them to develop.

...

"I'm just waiting," Laperriere said. "We'll have to see. I want to stay positive and see what happens. I've got time. I've got nothing else to do and nowhere else to go. If this is it, I've got no regrets. If I was 22, I'd be in depression big-time right now. I turn 37 in a couple weeks. It's not like I've missed out on a career. It's been a ride."
Same stuff pretty much.

Bold is pretty cool though.

If Laperriere never plays a another game for the Flyers he will go down as one of my all time favorites. I want him to come back because I am selfish. I miss watching the guy play balls out every single night. He plays the game the right way. If I had kids, I would tell them to watch Laperriere play the game.
That said, I hope he can live a normal life after hockey. post concussion syndrome is nothing to laugh at. If he is still having issues then I really, really would be shocked if he comes back. If he doesnt come back I am honored that I got to watch the guy play the game the way he played it. For my team. There is a reason why every fanbase that has had him on their team loved him. Now we all know.

Basically this is dead on.

Although considering how long and drawn out this whole BRAIN INJURY thing has been, I'd be ok with him not risking another injury. This kind of thing is cumulative, and I don't want to see what the next injury does to him.
