Let's make fun of the Devils some more...

In case anyone didn't see it, last night's epic shootout move by Ilya Kovalchuk.

Yea, that was pretty bad. But, happens to the best of them.

God I love watching the devils suffer more and more.

The Devils this year reminds me of the Flyers' season which shall not be named. Bad luck followed by worse luck, and a team in total disarray.

Their fans are going to have to do what we did that year - throw their hands up and just have fun with it. Or go insane.

I'm still not sure what to think of all this. Like CharlieGirl said, this is eerily reminiscent of that season we don't speak of, both in the setup and the current situation.

The Flyers were a team that needed an overhaul because the management was more or less just getting stuck and didn't really have new ideas. In the Flyers case it was the rules changes that lead to the new NHL, and the inability of Clarkie to adept to them. That gruesome season made it just readily apparent and forced to franchise make some changes.

Similarly the Devils have some long standing management with Lamoriello, but also a goalie carousel that has been spinning for the last couple of years but with the constant same result in the team being unable to move past the 2nd, and more often than not even unable to beat the 1st round of the playoffs. They have been good in the regular season, but what is that really worth?

It is questionable if the ownership even decide to change something about that situation since they seem to be very much aligned with Lamoriello, for better or for worse. It is also hard to tell what will come out of it. We could see anything, from the Capitals mid-season changeover in 07-08, the Flyers bounceback from that unspeakable season a year later, to a team fading into mediocrity or worse.

Until then, I suggest grabbing some popcorn and sitting back. I just reserve the right to laugh at them because I know this is what they did to us that one year.

So we can expect what, like 30 hands in the air?

He will be back... Just a matter of time.

Everyone in our division lost yesterday. Leafs scored one goal. Awesome!

I just hope if they wind up with the #1 pick, that is the pick they have to forfeit for the Kovalchuk thing. How great would that be?

i'd love it if the devils and toronto got the first and second pick, only to see other teams build themselves with it.

I'm pretty sure they get a choice of one of their next 3 1st rounders so obviously this would not be the year they give it up.

Oh I didn't realize the Devils got to pick. That's kind of a weird way to do it. Oh well.

And to top it off their best player is Zach Parise, he is a RFA at the end of the season, they may get a little cap relief but he is going to want to get a significant pay increase equal to J Arnotts departing salary.

I think the best part of the clip is the goalie's reaction.

Pronger quote about new all star game:

"Told that he could be selected captain by his peers, Pronger smiled.

"I'm not the poster boy for the league," he said."

Hes pretty much saying Crosby will be captain

If this season continues on the way it is going, my guess is someone shoots the Devs an offer sheet that they can't (or won't) match and Parise will likely walk. I would imagine that he is going to get a significant pay increase, probably close to double what he is getting now.

I like how some of the Devils fans are blaming the stupidity of the shootout instead of Kovy.

Some are even defending the guy. ITS OK GUYS WE GOT KOVYYYYYY

Parise just seems like a name that would be on the Sabres.

Just sayin'

Has anyone an idea for a center to replace TJ Oshie, everyone is available but the caphit has to be less than $1.57MM.

Double to what he's getting now:

3.125 X 2

= 6.250

Devils departing salary:

3.125+4.5+2.8 = 10.425

Factor in maybe a 2M cap increase.

So now we have 12.425.

12.425-6.250

= 6.175

But for arguments sake, lets give Parise an extra 2M, is he worth that money? No, not 8M, maybe 7. But that still leaves us with 4.175 or 5.175.

I think we'll be ok.
