I have a feeling that this trade is preparing another one...

We get rid of almost 1M on cap, maybe we will see a guy like MAB coming at that price you know

Props to Gauthier bringing local talented player here.

Not surprised to see O'Byrne dealt.. The Habs couldn't let him sit in the pressbox all season so something had to give.. OB is just another in a long list of Habs draftee's that failed to develop properly here...

Good luck in Colorado OB..

Latendresse, D'Agostini, Chipchura, S. Kostitsyn, O'Byrne... 5 guys under 26 who have been traded already with Martin as coach.

I like the return on this trade though, Bournival sounds like an interesting prospect and with Picard playing well this year we weren't likely to see O'Byrne play any time soon.

Pretty much.

Our D doesn't need more size it needs more IQ.

Curious to see how OB will do with some decent ice time. It's his chance to step up

dont like it
obyrne has to be refined and we just let him go for another piece that we have already. We have about 8 solid two-way centers.

nice

Yes, Bournival IMO doesn't have top 6 potential but he's an hard working team player that every contending team need/want in their lineup.

I do like this trade, O'byrne is not getting younger and altough he can become valuable when on his game it was definately not going to happen in Montreal.

As for the trade itself it kind of reminds me a bit of last year palushaj vs d'agostini. Both players that had a hard time breaking up the lineup vs younger prospects that have the tools to make it in the big. Let's call it a time machine type of trade (it gives back 3/4 years in developpement and we hope we can get something more valuable in the long run)

I like this trade a lot. I wanted Bournival at the last draft as he's a very hard working individual.

And at the pre-draft combine last year, Bournival finished first in push-ups:

No comments on the fact that we add a Quebecois yet? Haha

I'm not sure I'd use the word "mobile" to describe O'Byrne...

O'Byrne seemed like he was a great guy in the room, but lets be honest here... he was a liability most nights in between the odd flashes of good play.

I wish him all the best in Colorado though.

Good deal for all involved.

For those claiming that Montreal dealt O'Byrne for nothing: not true. Bournival is a solid prospect. Indeed, he was drafted in the early portion of a deep draft, and has had a good start to the season this year, showing significantly more offense.

O'Byrne gets a fresh start with a young team that might be able and willing to give him a longer leash.

Colorado gets a big body defenseman that can add some physicality to a D that's a little undersized and definitely facing a whole slew of injuries.

Good stuff. Nice move.

Don't like this one bit.

We trade something we have VERY little of for something we have coming out the wazoo...

Hopefully this is a 'domino', otherwise I hate it.

I'm quite neutral on this.

Had big expectations for OB a couple of years ago but not much so since the last 2 years or so. Don't know much about Bournival but he seems to be a decent prospect.

Now let's just hope that Tinordi will be for us what OB never was.

O'Byrne is strictly a marginal defenseman (if that) and at his age it's starting to look unlikely he'll blossom. Picard ate his lunch, so he wasn't too likely to get playing time in Montreal. The only way he looked good in Montreal is if he was paired with Markov... and then he acted as a lead weight on #79.

I'm actually surprised Montreal got an 18-year-old prospect out of him.

Love this trade. O'Byrne wasn't playing, and when he did he constantly made mistakes. Bournival is a really quality prospect. Very, very happy.

basically, it's OB vs a 3rd rounder. Not bad. I wasn't expecting more from a 26yo who can't crack an NHL lineup.

reading some posts you would think he has a shot at the Norris in the next couple of years

Very surprised, actually. And not just any 18-year old prospect. Bournival's decent.

I had the chance to coach Bournival in 2004 (pee-wee AA), very good kid, hard worker and very talented.
