There would be zero reason why the Penguins would trade staal for Steve Ott. No reason at all. Ott is best at center right ? Something built around Staal for Neal makes alot more sence.
Staal is never being traded absent being close to UFA status and demanding a trade. This start to the season has I think convinced even the couple who have been the biggest ship Staal out of town for a winger guys on our board of his true value to the team.

We begin on the blue line, where ESPN's Pierre LeBrun is aghast by the Penguins' D-corps:

But the defensive play as a team? Yeesh.

When the Penguins brought in Zbynek Michalek(notes) and Paul Martin(notes) on July 1, it was hard not to think that they had among the best blue lines in the East, even with Sergei Gonchar's(notes) departure. Those two signings were exactly what Pittsburgh needed after placing 20th in goals against last season.

After Wednesday's effort, the Pens sit 19th out of 30 teams. Not good.

....

In fairness, a guy like Jordan Staal(notes) could immediately change that "team defense" problem, as their best defensive forward and primary penalty killer last season. But he's not walking through that dressing room door anytime soon

Not that I expect Staal to immeditately step in when he returns and be exactly the player he was. But those saying that guys that do what he do are a dime a dozen and easy to replace are pretty much watch the stat lines more than the games and have no clue what he actually brings to the table. If Shero ever were stupid enough to put Staal on the table as trade bait he would have every other team in the league lined up to make an offer and could get a whole lot more than the players listed in this thread. Shero is not that dumb though.

Absolutely not. Calgary needs to add more. Pittsburgh may not even have salary cap space. Not sure what Bourque and Hagman are making.

The only positive that I can take from the OP is that he spelled "Staal" correctly.

There is nothing else positive I can say about it.
