This trade is in no way shape or form a bad deal. OB gets ice time, we get a prospect in return who could potentially be an NHL player. I think it's a good deal for both parties.

Gauthier is the master of the, "What's good for the goose is good for the gander" deals.

In regards of the Habs, they get another good young forward that plays a good two way game and looks to be a decent prospect.

Can anyone here really say they thought we would get that much for OB?
In comparison (and in all proportion) , the Habs got more for O'Byrne (a 7th d-man) than they got for Halak (a number 1 goalie)....

When I woke up this morning I got a text saying O'Byrne was traded. I was like "Nice! I'm excepting the return to be a 5th or 6th round pick"

I opened my PC and I saw that we acquired a guy that was drafted in the third round of this year's draft.

So you think that if we had acquired, instead of Bournival, an american or an european player that was drafted in the top three rounds of this year's draft for O'Byrne, I would have been mad about this trade.

You are the one who looks hypochritical if you ask me!

Not altogether true.

Dandenault was still around. He played 41 games. By the time he was mostly on the outs, Schneider was acquired.

Markov, Komisarek, Gorges, Bouillon, Dandenault/Schneider, Hamrlik, and Brisebois were still present. O'Byrne was the #7. He was 24. That cannot be considered rushing him.

I will say I am happy about this trade and I don't know anything about the player soon to be nicknamed "the Bourne Identity" or something like it. lol

I always felt OB was too soft to be a big slow non puck moving dman. The guy wasnt vicious at all and in my mind that makes him next to useless in his role.

I love Bournival, but there's no way in hell he will be that good.

He was doomed ever since he score that autogoal in 2009. I always thought the guy had no brain. Yes he was big, but he wasn't smart.

This is pretty much D'Agostini trade #2.

Schneider was aquired late in the season because the team have no depth. When I talk about depth I mean good NHL defensemen not Dandenault case.

The team was thin at D so it didn't help O'byrnes progression. When I say rush I mean he was rush in a role he wasn't able to succeed in. Give him a team with 6 good defensemen and let him have a lesser role and he devellop in a better D.

Given we have no other big defensive dmen in our system aside from Tinordi who is a while away, I don't like it. We have plenty of guys like Bournival.

OB will flourish into a solid #4-5 guy in Colorado.

I like it. O'Byrne was clearly done in Montreal, IMO.

I'm not a fan of dropping a serviceable NHL player (arguably I guess) for a low-level prospect but whatever, time will tell.
I have a feeling he's the guy we'd have taken if we didn't trade our 2nd rounder.

The way we draft, that isn't a positive, I don't think.

I liked what I read about Bournival back this summer. He's a quality prospect. O'Byrne was done as dinner with us anyway.

Good deal as far as I'm concerned.

Habs usually draft good second rounders.

I think this is first and foremost a business decision from PG. O'Byrne was taking way too much cap space for his current and foreseable role with this team. I also think you can safely project him as a permanent journeyman in this league, as he plateaued a while ago.

But we benefit from Colorado's precarious D situation to get an other good prospect in the system, so I'm happily surprised about this trade. It's a smart one, and I'm starting to like Gauthier's mentality, trading players who no longer fit for untapped potential. To me that's a low risk high reward way of doing business and staying competitive.

Se we turned both O'Byrne and Dago into Bournival and Palushaj? Nice trades i believe.
