Tor-Chi (Midseason)

To Hawks
C Mikhail Grabovski

To Leafs
2nd round pick (There choice of either Hawks , Flames or Thrashers)

Grabovski is a solid #2 C in my opinion and that has been a major need for Hawks IMO. Hopefully we can pull it together and start playing solid hockey soon but for deadline this deal would be a nice move to improve team for playoffs allowing us to move Sharp back to wing fulltime

Hawks should have enough cap room to bring aboard Grabovski by late January I believe

Sharp-Toews-Kane
Kopecky-Grabovski-Hossa (I think that line would work well together)
Stalberg-Bolland-Skille
Pisani-Dowell-Brouwer
(Bickell)

^
I like the look of that lineup

I figure the Leafs will be far enough out of it a guy like Brayden Irwin or Nazem Kadri will be playing and he get NHL experience as #2 C

Mikhail Grabovski is extremely underrated! He leads our team in plus-minus, is still young, and plays smart two-way hockey.

I don't think Leafs are looking to move him, to be honest.

Also wouldn't mind it being our 1st instead of a 2nd if Gunnarsson was included

Surely we can do better than Grabovski. Let's start by not trying to pick up the retreads from a losing atmosphere.

Not very many affordable #2's that might be on market

And Grabovski is a solid player

You can definitely do better than Grabovski, but for a 2nd rounder, I highly doubt you can.

Grabovski is a legit 2nd line C when healthy. He's fast, can stick handle and set guys up, and is a nice two-way player. For an Euro, he's also not afraid to get in traffic, and forecheck.

It's a decent offer for sure.. 99% of Leaf fans would have traded him for less last summer...

The sad reality, is that he is currently one of our top 3 forwards (2?)...

Either way, solid trade, but won't happen b/c Burke won't make any moves for the future that hurt us now... his ego won't let him...

This one makes no sense for either team.

Like you said, Grabo is a decent 2nd line centre, and as of right now he's by far the best centre the Leafs have. If they continue on this poor streak, by mid-season they'll look to make a massive trade to acquire another big player, not a 2nd round pick for a player who isn't a UFA. The only way he becomes expendable is if Bozak steps up his offensive game (getting off the top line should help him) AND Kadri looks like a #1 NHL centre when he does get into action. Alternatively he'd also be expendable for a better centre.

Meanwhile, Chicago is pressed right up against the cap, and Grabo makes $2.9m. It's just not practical to fit him in without sending significant salary the other way.... Brian Campbell is obviously a non-starter, and from there the Leafs will be glad to take on just about any player who makes $2.5m or more from the Hawks.

Hawks barring any major changes can afford to add Grabo and his salary mid season and next year we will have enough free cap room that his 2.9 mil salary wont hurt us

no thanks. Grabo's been one of our best players, however I would consider it if we are out of it and Bozak and Kadri have improved and are playing at least like borderline top 6 forwards.

Chicago is currently projected to have $900k in cap space at the end of the season, and that will go down if they get any more guys hurt. Adding Grabo would displace a roster player (at least $500k), so the net increase would be $2.4m. Mid-season would mean an increase of half of that, or $1.2m, greater than their available cap space. They could do it at the deadline (again assuming they don't have any more injuries).

As I mentioned above, it's also unlikely that Grabovski becomes expendable. He'd have to have 2 guys out play him, and with the way those 2 guys are playing, that doesn't seem very likely.

Much as I do not like Grabovski, it would be asset we could use. That being said, I believe Burke would desire a first over a second since Toronto lacks that going into the draft. If Gunnarsson was involved I would do it without question.

I don't see this trade working for either team.

Toronto desperately needs all of the centre depth they can get. Like it or not Grabo is the best we have at the moment and he has a decent contract. Burke is attempting to build Toronto to be a winner in the next few years. As bleak as it looks right now there is a lot of good pieces in place. That 2nd rounder is realistically at least 3 years away from making the team.

Why does Chicago need to move Sharp back to the wing in the first place? He has 17points in 17 games. Chicago won't be able to fit in Grabo at 2.9 after this year because they have to resign Seabrook as well as other RFAs, UFAs (most notably a goalie).

Chicago could certainly use some forward depth. A UFA 2nd liner would fit there needs more. Players in the under 3 million per year along the lines of a Langenburner, Kobasew, J. Jokinen, Tanguay would work depending on how there respective teams perform between now and the deadline.

Leafs won't deal Grabs for a 2nd regardless if it's Atlanta's, Calgary's or Chicago's pick. Kadri is looking like he is going to end up on the wing so we will need Grabs for a little longer.

Also throwing in Gunnarsson with Grabs for Chicago's 1st instead is ridiculous given the fact that pick will likely be considered a 2nd rounder.

If Chicago starts talking Kyle Beach then it's a different story.

If he does this it pretty much assures a lottery pick for the B's.

As bad as this is...Grabo may well be our best forward right now.

He's one of the only ones playing consistent, both ends of the ice, every night

The 'Hawks have Toews-Sharp-Bolland-Dowell down the middle.

They are up against the cap ceiling.

Adding a $2.9 million center makes no sense at all.
