10 years? Wow.

TBH, I'd rather have Giroux for 10 years, but having at least both, and richards for the next 4 years isa huge plus!

Who says they are mutually exclusive?

I'm not going to worry about Roo's next contract right now.

By the time Briere's contract is up, isnt Giroux's as well? So basically, Briere's Money will go to G.

Anyway... If the cap hit is like, 5.50 - 6. Which it could be if this is a 10 year deal... Well, I like it.

The only way I think Holmgren would agree to a 10-year deal is if it means a lower annual cap hit. I used to think Carter was going to get $6.5M per, but now I think it's going to be between $5.5M and $6M. So, I'll throw my hat in the ring: 10 years, $57.5M (same cap hit as Richards). If that's the case, it's a phenomenal deal.

I am excited hoping the cap hit is 5-6 mil. This will take Carter until he is 35 correct?

I'll be ok between 5 and 6, and with no or a very limited NTC

Maybe a NTC within the first 5 years of that 10 year?

He can't have one next year. I don't want him to ever have one, nor any one else. If your going to do it limit it to like 10 teams they can refuse.

If he's signed for ten years then there better not be a full NMC or NTC and the cap hit better not be at 6 mil or above.

I wonder if the next cba will do away with guaranteed contracts ala the NFL? Could impact how I feel about such a huge deal...but for now, I'll feel good about locking up a very good, big, two-way center.

So as usual I'll wait and see. It is surprising to me that some would be dismayed to keep Carter, being that many posters around HF would kill to have him on their team.

He's probably been our most consistent regular season scorer the last couple of years.

The vast majority of players don't get their points game after game consistently, they usually come sporadically. I don't get where all this "inconsistent play" stuff comes from. He's consistently been our best goal-scorer and top two point-getter for a while now and his game hasn't changed any.

He does have a penchant for scoring in spurts against bad teams. He's got 8 goals this year, 6 have come in 3 blow-outs against bad teams (the Sabres ended up not being a blowout, but they were being dominated and blown out when Carter scored)

Not the birthday present I wanted, that is for damn sure.

Most already no my distaste for Carter, so signing him to any deal I would be against. Would rather move him, but hey, if the organization wants him, I obviously have no say.

But 10 years worth of Carter? I will barely be able to deal with 1 more year let alone another 9 tacked on.
