To be honest I think Hamilton is solid this year and it might be best to wait until next year before trading OB and Weber. (If we really don't let OB into the line up soon though I agree he should be traded)
As per Carle, he has barely any value so not much point.
After the seasons end when Weber has some crazy totals, we could package him with somebody possibly.
Maybe a team will be willing to take on Spaceks contract if we send them Weber + Pick along with Scapegoat
Yeah...I wouldn't mind that at all. Honestly, I think defence is the least of our worries....we need another scoring forward and if we can package a couple of decent defencemen, prospects and picks to aquire a scorer....I'm all for it.
Agreed. Not only are Spacek, Gill and Hamrlik all a bit past their due date but they're terribly boring to watch particularly alongside Gorges.
I'd like to see Weber's big shot and O'Byrne's big hits and occasional fight.
I think we need a guy like OB for sure, Weber, not very urgently with Markov and Subban plus Hamrlik that can contribute at both ends.
Not sure why you are lumping in Harmlik with Gill and Spacek, he's been a tower of strength for us since his return. I think he still has gas left in the tank and I'd prefer to keep him next year on a short term deal with a smaller cap hit though(3-3.5 mil-1 year) as a #4-5 guy.
It's unfortunate, but we're seeing the effects of Gainey's terrible decisions and cap management right now with Spacek and Hammer.
Crazy how mistakes pile up into more mistakes...
1. Not willing to negotiate with Streit until it was too late
2. Letting Streit go for peanuts
3. Signing Spacek/Hammer to crazy 3-5 years deals
4. Not being able to give a chance to a good young prospect who's on fire even if we wanted to because of multiple prior mistakes, can't play a 25 year old dman coming unto his own either for the same reason
And this potentially leads to even more mistakes in the future as we try to fix the current ones.
Hamrlik is in his 5th year and he is still productive and a guy that can eat 20 solid minutes a night. Spacek I agree that 1 year would have been plenty.
Streit is making over 4 mil with the Islanders, that's harly peanuts, no way was he worth that much here playing 4th line and on the right PP point. Maybe if we had a coach taht played him on defense, I could see the point of signing him to anything around 3 mil per season.
Subban is getting his chance, the NHL is about winning games, not how many rookies you can dress, I'm sure guys like Weber will get their chance next year, right now IMHO he needs more seasoning and isn't ready defensively.
I go with MAB before Weber. With the caveat that Martin is simply not permitted to play MAB on D except on the PP.
As for Martin, he'd probably be perfectly content to Streiticize Weber and use him as a forward (which I don't think is right for Weber's longterm development at this stage), but then perversely refuse to take MAB off D. Or something like that. MAB is the Devil we know, and there are not really any longterm consequences to throwing him out there as a PP hail mary once again. If Weber failed to re-ignite the PP, what happens to him? Martin seems to set his opinions on young players pretty early and immutably. I'd rather just see Weber clock a full development year in Hamilton, and then replace MAB from the get-go next year. If it came to that.
We have no room. Rather he play 20 in AHL than 5 in NHL.
But the decision isn't yours and Martin seems rather fond of playing prospects around 5min
In any event, victories had made Martin's job easier so far. Even though our big guns up front aren't producing much and our PP is the 2nd worst, we managed to be at the top of our division and only 3pts behind the 1st seed. But if we put a string of losses together, then we could very well end up around 8-10th seed, at that point Martin will definitely be more pressure to adjust accordingly.
Right now, a lot of people are saying no need to panic, personally I think that's wrong. Yes, no need to go crazy and make drastic moves, that being said, there's never a bad time to improve your team. We need some improvements up front and on PP. The longer we wait, the more chances we have for it backfire.
Things need to be done, properly.
