Yeah, 10 for 60 is just a tad steep, bout a 750K paycut I guess, the thing is that he is going to be worth nowhere near that the last couple years of the deal, so hopefully for the first 8 years or so he plays like a 7 mill player.
In a perfect world I would not want him outearning Richards, but the difference in timing of the contracts, the cap moving upward and the market conditions today make the 2 contracts quite apart in comparison. I would be content with that proposed deal and I think Philly would be looking good to contend for years to come with the players they have locked up, while still being in position to deal with this offseason.
Are you guys serious? He's making 5.5m this year, did you think he was going to take a pay cut or not get a raise? Please tell me what you guys were possibly expecting this contract to be worth because I'm quite thrilled that the rumored number is under 70m.

Eh, I don't think any of us were expecting a Pronger type reduction, but considering he's worth 6.5-7 probably, 6.0 isn't a huge discount and the term does hurt flexibility just a bit.
It's not a bad deal at all, but it's not a steal like the Roo one which is probably why we're a bit spoiled.
I am going to give on this and say I agree with you, but it would mean he would have to adjust to playing wing under Laviolette I would assume it could also hurt them in bringing back Leino which would be a huge loss IMO.
I am also not fan of saying we need to sacrifice one of the d-men because the theory of building from the defense out is going to help save some years on Pronger and Timonen. It also means that Carter needs to contribute in the playoffs, not just a couple of points here and there but actually be a difference maker in a series or two.
Leino at the numbers TimP is saying would be the steal of the year for Philly.
This exactly. As much as I'm loving Carter to be in the 10/60 range, Leino at 3/6 for 3 UFA years is criminal. The only comparable deal I can find that took UFA years would be Alex Burrows getting 4/8 in the middle of his breakout year. Never did I think they could get it done for those kind of numbers with the Ryan Clowes of the world getting 4/14.5 after one and a half good years.
If the numbers are accurate, Holmgren did a fantastic job keeping the team together.
Agreed, although I don't think he deserves more than Richards, get it done Homer!
I agree with you that Richards deserves to make more because of what he brings.
But the fact is goal scorers get paid in this league and to have a great goal scorer on your team for a 6 mil cap hit is great. So I think we are going to be lucky if this is true and it is a 6 mil cap hit.
