Oh wow. I'll take "promotions you'd have to see to believe" for $500, Alex.

However, compared to the Saskatoon Blades "special" jerseys for tonight's game...

Looks who's talking 'Denim Dan'! You look like the President and CEO of Levi-Strauss!

I looked at the NHL All-Star Game Ballot 100 Players, and the Flyers have 5 players eligible (Pronger, Timonen, Richards, Carter, Briere). However there is no Claude Giroux.

Are those 100 names on the ballot only for the 12 starters that the fans have a vote for, or are the other 500 NHL players unable to gain access to the ASG? Does that mean Claude Giroux cannot be voted in by the fans only? If not, will be voted in by the NHL if he keeps up his dominance and scoring pace?

Thanks for the help.

Gotta suck to be the last guy picked. Reminds me of the school-yard days.

At the least, this should make the game more interesting for the fans and more involved for the players. So it's an improvement even if there are flaws in it.

They should take this a step further. Go full fledged pond hockey style.

Offensive players sticks in the center, separate.
Defensive players sticks in the center, separate.
Goalie sticks in the center, separate.

That would be pretty awesome actually. Just as interesting (although probably less engaging for the players), much more fair, and it pays a nice homage to hockey roots.

I love the idea about SC Champs playing an AS squad like in the old days, but I don't see that getting hitting back in the game.

Providing the Champs' management is cool with, I don't see where the other teams involved would go for the idea of risking their meal tickets' health for an exhibition game... I see where the Champs would go all out for pride, but that is the extent of it, IMO.

That said, NHL All Stars do risk it all for the Olympics and against teams such as the Soviet Red Army... Who knows?... I'm in.

Best idea yet... Make it happen, Bettman.

I believe I read somewhere that the voting would be for the equivalent of the starters -- I say 'equivalent' because with the captains selections they can't vote in starters due to the way they may wind up team-wise -- and the rest of the all stars would be selected by the usual idiots... uh... suspects... uh NHL people.

HTH

I'd pull an Iron Mike and refuse for my team to go out with those on. That's embarrassing.

They need to play some Bow Chik A Wow type porn music on the P.A to make it complete.

What's really hilarious is that Gene Simmons warmed up as goalie at that game, and hometown girl Shannon Tweed sang the anthem. Talk about a complete mind-bleep!

Edit: Bwahahaa -- I hadn't read your comment Black Ice! That goes even better with Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed.

I was reminded of a story Jimmy Watson told my old team when we signed up for a clinic at Aston IceWorks. He was talking about pond hockey and the risk of losing a puck either in the snow banks at rink's edge or when someone lifted it out of play. He said if they ran out of pucks, they'd look for a (ahem) a horse's dropping because, when frozen, it would work as a substitute puck. I hope he was pulling our legs...

Okay, need a little detail for clarification... Do they form them into regulation puck size and shape, freeze them and then use them... Or do they go with what God has provided them and play with the roundish horse waste after the steam stops and the freezer-burn begins?
