Jamie Langenbrunner

I don't know if the Isles actually have any interest in acquiring him through a trade or anything...just throwing this out there. Would it be a good idea to try to get him with the cap hell the Devils are going through? Apparently there is a lot friction with him and the Devils team and organization right now (so I've heard). He's the type of veteran who can still put up good numbers, and that's what this team needs.

What do you think the Islanders would have to trade to get Langenbrunner? Could we get a steal like we did with Wiz?

If there is one player in the league that can make a huge instant impact it is Langenbrunner.

When Scott Gordon assistant coached the US olympic team, he got a long great with Langenbrunner.

We could deal one of the goalie prospects, a lower tier dman prospect like Ness and a 2nd and maybe get him.

He is of far greater value than Wizzer.

I'd have a hard time trading Poulin or Koskinen in division like that. Nilsson is doable, but they are surely going to want the one closest to NHL ready.

He would help here a ton though.... especially his leadership, experience, speed and RH shot. I'd love to have Brian Rolston too, but I know that isn't a popular opinion LMAO.

Langenbrunner will surely help. He is a character guy and can also chip in 50-60 pts, especially on a team that would give him around 20 mins. However, the Isles main issue is lack of talent at both ends of the ice. Thus, any infusion of talent will make an impact on this team, but him being the "one player in the league that can make a huge instant impact" is a statement that undermines that Isles largest problem: lack of talent. For instance, we need an Ovechkin/Crosby/Stamkos more than a Langenbrunner. Langenbrunner will likely only marginally improve this team. Without Streit and Okposo, the Isles are severely lacking the talent needed to compete.

With the Islanders, it isn't so much what is missing, but what is playing? Adding Langenbrunner moves Weight to the 4th line and another guy to the luxury box. Islanders will start to get some guys back, but even at full strength they only have 5 top 6 forwards, so he is that one "impact" player, because he fills a need and makes us better.

If we had Langenbrunner and were at full strength, we probably would be a playoff team (starting with a record of 0-0-0, not 4-9-3)

Moulson/JT/Langenbrunner
Comeau/Bailey/Okposo
Martin/Nielsen/Hunter
Parenteau/Konopka/Sim

Streit/MacDonald
Eaton/Martinek
Wizzer/Jurcina

Roloson (90% of starts), Dipietro

Luxury Box: Grabner, Hillen.

I'd waive Gervais and Schremp
Demote Gillies
And retire Weight.

Parenteau could survive on the 4th line, in a scenario where 4th line gets less minutes, but he would be around for the PP and shootouts.

Hunter and a 2nd for Langenbrunner and another roster player not named Rolston (Salmela?).

Moulson-Tavares-Langenbrunner
Grabner-Bailey-Okposo
Martin-Nielsen-Comeau
Weight-Konopka-Parenteau

MacDonald-Wisniewski
Eaton-Martinek
Mottau-Jurcina

Roloson
DiPietro

You can't separate what is missing and who is playing; It's the same concept (glass half-full/empty, whatever). Deep teams have 3rd liners playing on the 3rd line. In fact all playoff teams function this way. We're not there yet. We may have been if KO and Streit were healthy, even then it's a stretch.

The main issue with this team as far as I'm concerned is lack of an offensive leader. JT isn't there yet. Getting a Langenbrunner will slide everyone down a slot, and that in itself will be helpful, but the lack of scoring will not be addressed with the addition of a Langenbrunner. We need more than that. We need a guy who can put up 70-90 pts. The kind of guy you need to win close games. Aside from the games we have blown out in, the games have been close and relatively played well, with one exception: ability to generate and finish offensive opportunities. Too many of our players are offensively incompetent 5-on-5 situations, while others (Bailey, Comeau) are too inconsistent.

Langenbrunner is another depth piece. Another depth piece won't do us much good. We need a leading man.

The leading man is 2-3 years away from the 70-90 point park in JT. Unlike Tampa we were not lucky enough to pick #1 and still have St Louis and LeCav. Kovy is that guy, but the more I see of him, he is just a super skilled PP specialist.

I think a lot of good teams don't have that 70-90 point guy still and make the playoffs, and at this point in time, making the playoffs can turn into a great run, look at Philly and Montreal last year. We need to get the playoffs and I do think Langenbrunner, the 4 guys coming back from injury and maybe signing Satan as a stopgap if Comeau can't hack the top 6 responsibility, would put us into the playoffs, a lot of healing I guess.

Why trade for Langebrunner. If you want to bring in a quick fix for this season then sign Owen Nolan. He is playing in the Swiss A league right now with an NHL out clause. He is scoring 2ppg and he is a big strong power forward that would do Tavares a lot of good. If he is playing strong and the deadline and we are out of contention move him for a pick, plus we dont have to give up anything to get him.
