What player in history spent the logest time with one team? My first thought is Gordie Howe who was with the Red Wings from 1946-1971. Does anybody have him beat?

Jere Lehtinen doesn't have a contract now but he has said that he might sign one when spring comes. His career is 875 games and he has played them all for Dallas Stars.

He's the longest I can see if it doesn't matter who he played for after that time period.. Played with the Wings from the ages of 18-42.

He did play for a variety of teams after coming back from retirement at the age of 45!

Alex Delvecchio played for the Wings from ages of 18-41. Off the top of my head, I can't think of a player who never played for another team who played that long.

You are correct. Here's the top 15 list:

Delvecchio - DET - 24 seasons
Mikita - CBH - 22 seasons
Yzerman - DET - 22 seasons
Armstrong - TOR - 21 seasons
Beliveau - MTL - 20 seasons
Clapper - BOS - 20 seasons
Daneyko - NJD - 20 seasons
H.Richard - MTL - 20 seasons
Lidstrom - DET - 19 seasons
Gilbert - NYR - 18 seasons
M.Richard - MTL - 18 seasons
Cashman - BOS - 17 seasons
Lemieux - PIT - 17 seasons
March - CBH - 17 seasons
Perreault - BUF - 17 seasons

Playing for only one team is much more rare than I thought. And who knew that Mario Lemieux would be on any top 15 list related to longevity?

Joe Sakic and his 20 year career with the Nordiques/Avalanche is missing from this list. Though I suspect since the team moved midway through his career is the reason for this.
