I can't decide if I'm happier about the 8 - 2 win or the team sticking up for each other and actually dominating another team physically, even if its only the Oilers.
Either way great game. Stepan, Anisimov, Gabby, Frolov, Biron, Christensen all came up big.
Got to see a clip of the Christensen interview..... not impressed at all. You don't make comments like that about your teammate.
Also, Oiler players..... several said they heard Avery saying "No, no, no" but Whitney said he heard Avery saying, "wait, wait, wait"........ those boys can't even get their story straight.

None of them heard ****. They're just sticking up for their guy, which is fine by me. Wish EC woulda done it, too!
First game i havent watched this year... i checked the box score.. wtf happened in the 3rd? can anyone give me a rundown?
So Avery threw a crushing check on a guy along the boards. Clean hit, no one disputes that. Smid came over and challenged Avery. Both went back and forth between between watching the play and staring each other down. Avery didn't want to go at first. Eventually, he threw his gloves down and took a big swing, caught Smid right on the jaw. Put him down. Smid had enough time to drop one glove, grab Avery and take 2 strides back. People are pissed saying Avery "attacked" or "suckerpunched" Smid, which isn't true. It was a typical Avery play, but not anything dirty. Smid wanted to go, took his eye off Avery and got decked.
Avery was being escorted off (instigator I guess?) and a couple Edmonton players tried to get at him right as he stepped into the tunnel. A frw scraps broke out, Theo Peckham came from the bench to the ice, Dubinsky grabbed someone while still on the bench. Prust got smacked around by someone...Stortini maybe?
Everyone was separated, guys went back to playing. Rangers scored 3 more goals and that's all she wrote.
Theoretically if you wanna go *****ing about stuff, you could whine about how dubi got involved on the bench. I don't know if the other guy just started going after him, or if dubi said something to provoke it, and I could really care less.
Dubi got involved in the fight, and got kicked out of the game along with everybody else involved. Case closed. It wouldn't bother me if the other guy instigated with him. The fact is he got involved in a fight and got the penalty for it.
Even if the other guy left his bench to go pick the fight, that's all part of the game. I'll save the whining for when the refs f up a major call like waving off a goal that should've counted or allow a goal because they didn't call interference on something that should've been. You can argue about how it would be unfair that he got thrown out of the game, but the way the game works is everybody involved goes. Deal with it. Not all fights are fair.
With the Avery situation, If it was anyone else it would not even be a big deal. Smid instigated it, Smid dropped his gloves, and Smid got punched in the ****ing mouth. End of Story.
As for the game itself. EC, Frolov, and gabby impressed. AA got another one which was nice. Stepan could use a little more ice time, he is a playmaker.
I said it in the other thread. We need dubi and cally to keep going, and not think that they do not need to score because we have gabby. We NEED them to score to win games, keep up the secondary scoring.
Overall great game, besides that little 28 second flub. I dont care if it was the oilers, still an NHL team, and a dominant performance.
I am not sure what happened with the EC comment, so I won't speculate. But overall I love this team and how they defend each other, you could see it tonight, and I think even more against washington, thats the way you gotta play defending each other, and having each others backs.
Way to go boys, lets keep it rolling and get some more points
man the thread on the main board was ridiculous. so overblown because it was done by sean avery. someone (i think it was an Av's fan) said if avery didnt get lucky and connect on the first punch the fight would have continued and it wouldn't be discussed AT ALL. its only because he knocked Smid out that its such a big deal.
I understand why people think it was a suckerpunch, but whatever. Even if it was, I don't know why Christensen would say what he did. If Avery killed someone by a dirty hit, he should say, "I thought it was a clean hit." He's always supposed to stick up for his teammates but he just goes on TV saying how the play would be reviewed and how he saw Avery hit Smid when he wasn't looking. Complete ********.
Seriously though, extremely happy with this game. I didn't get to see Boyle ROPE Peckham up and just strangle him away from Avery, and I was at the Garden! I'm loving this kid.
In fact, I'm happy with the whole roster today. I think EVERYBODY was involved with something today, be it a fight, goal or assist .
He said something along the lines of (don't remember the actual quote) "Aves hit the guy when he wasn't looking...I'm sure the league will look at it"
First of all EC, you weren't on the ice you were on the bench so clearly you didn't see this right since Smid was obviously looking at Avery.
Come to think of it, all the Oilers also said that Smid wasn't looking at Avery when Aves hit him...I don't understand how this thought is possible?
Back to EC...if you don't know the full details of the "incident" or didn't have a clear view of it which he obviously didn't, then keep your ****ing mouth shut about it. Don't go running your mouth about a TEAMMATE when it's just complete slander on your part.
For a team that's proving how well they're sticking up for each other, I'm infuriated at what EC did tonight.
