Yeah, EC does need to shut up. Again, he's certainly entitled to his opinion, but he needs to be more political when speaking publicly. Keep that **** in the locker room. He's lucky to have a job, he doesn't need to be critical of Avery--a guy that Slats acquired twice.
He said something along the lines of (don't remember the actual quote) "Aves hit the guy when he wasn't looking...I'm sure the league will look at it"
First of all EC, you weren't on the ice you were on the bench so clearly you didn't see this right since Smid was obviously looking at Avery.
Come to think of it, all the Oilers also said that Smid wasn't looking at Avery when Aves hit him...I don't understand how this thought is possible?
Back to EC...if you don't know the full details of the "incident" or didn't have a clear view of it which he obviously didn't, then keep your ****ing mouth shut about it. Don't go running your mouth about a TEAMMATE when it's just complete slander on your part.
For a team that's proving how well they're sticking up for each other, I'm infuriated at what EC did tonight.
I hope Avery fights him in practice.
Dead on.
When you say you didn't get a good look of it of the fight, it stops there. You certainly don't go ahead and say something that would be unfavorable towards your teammate. EC said something that an Oilers player would say.
Drury has repeatedly stood up for Avery in the media. Does he agree with everything Avery does? I doubt it, but I'm sure Drury is smart enough to realize that you always stand by your teammates. Christensen needs to take a few pointers from his captain.
So Avery threw a crushing check on a guy along the boards. Clean hit, no one disputes that. Smid came over and challenged Avery. Both went back and forth between between watching the play and staring each other down. Avery didn't want to go at first. Eventually, he threw his gloves down and took a big swing, caught Smid right on the jaw. Put him down. Smid had enough time to drop one glove, grab Avery and take 2 strides back. People are pissed saying Avery "attacked" or "suckerpunched" Smid, which isn't true. It was a typical Avery play, but not anything dirty. Smid wanted to go, took his eye off Avery and got decked.
Avery was being escorted off (instigator I guess?) and a couple Edmonton players tried to get at him right as he stepped into the tunnel. A frw scraps broke out, Theo Peckham came from the bench to the ice, Dubinsky grabbed someone while still on the bench. Prust got smacked around by someone...Stortini maybe?
Everyone was separated, guys went back to playing. Rangers scored 3 more goals and that's all she wrote.
EDIT: Video:
This.
I wish more fights were like that. Instead of the two guys tossing their gloves off and then circling eachother in boxing stance for 20 seconds before one guy grabs the others jersey and then vice-versa and a mostly hug fight with maybe 1-3 punches landing the face goes on for 2 minutes.
Anyone else notice how the media is trying to break up our togetherness. Disgusting bias.
Craig Button was awful on NHL on the Fly. He basically called him an idiot, selfish, not team player, then said Prust should be disgusted with him because he had to fight Stortini.

Canadian media can not comprehend the bond of Rangers fans, forced to endure together the most horrible of horrors and terrible of terrors for the last decade plus.

I meant the team. Watch NHL on the fly. I almost threw up at some of the comments these guys were coming up with.

Yeah I know, just poking fun at the situation . As long as the team realizes how the fans felt (if they took anything from how the crowd reacted they'll know we absolutely loved it) I don't give two craps what some biased broadcaster says about them.

That was some BS. Stortini came flying over and went RIGHT AT Prust. Unbelievable.
Plus, I love how Peckham tries to go after Avery after he's already down the tunnel. *****.
Yaknow, I am probably gonna get flamed for this. I am a huge avery supporter, and an even bigger ranger fan, but it was not a fair punch at all. If you pause the video right before aves drops his gloves, smids skates are faced away and his gloves are on. As aves goes to shake his gloves smid takes his off in self defense. Maybe I wouldnt classify it as dirty, more along the lines of sneaky, but I actually don't like what he did. I liked it at the time, and I like him fighting, but do it straight up.

Why would you take off your gloves in self defense?

Funny how prust isn't complaining he got into a fight because of it.

I would say it is a pretty natural reaction as a hockey player, to free your hands in case you have to throw a punch, pause the above video at 1:23. Avery's gloves are off and smid still has his stick, and is facing away from avery. I love the guy, but jut watch the video and be unbiased.

He probably didn't think he would get rocked that badly and would fall down. Maybe he thought that Avery would have just hit him not as hard and that he would actually be able to fight back. But the exact opposite happened.

Yeah don't get me wrong I enjoyed every minute of it, and am glad he did it. But it was not as fair as everyone makes it out to be,, we should all know avery is no angel.

That makes sense. Unfamiliar concept to me though as I was almost always the aggressor.
