Colin Campbell was offered GM Job in 2006? Also emails showing Campbell's bias

Quote:
I learned that he turned down a five year $7.5MM deal with the Flyers in 2006 because he wanted the Leafs job. Some day…
This was from a thread from the main boards. Supposedly this information was taken from a dispute between the league and a referee.
It was taken from CanLII.

Oh. I wasn't following the wires as closely back then. I only watched the games. I never heard about Campbell getting offered the GM job. There also some other interesting things that could be taken from this post too. Sorry for posting this then.

Judging by how he has done in the NHL league office, Colin Campbell not accepting the job was the best thing to happen to the Flyers.

I couldn't get the link to work but here is the info from that time...

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/print...568&type=story

Quote:
"Colin Campbell and I have been friends for a very long time and we both have worked closely together on the NHL's competition committee," Snider said. "When Bob Clarke announced his resignation on Oct. 22, I contacted Colin and we had a discussion about the general manager position.

This is the actual case the person was talking about. Looks pretty bad for the league. Portrays Campbell as calling Savard a whiner.

I didn't read the entire case on CanLII...but I skimmed it and the court dismissed the action, so my guess is nothing will come of it. I just skimmed the case so if I'm wrong please correct me.

I knew he was an ass, but this stunned me out of complacency.

Also, in that thread, one poster found that after the tripping call against Campbell's son that caused the OT win for Atlanta, VanMassenhoven didn't call a single game for the Panthers for the rest of the 07-08 season. Wow..

Agreed. Whether Campbell's influence had any bearing on how Florida's games were handled following the emails is very difficult to prove. None of the favouritism that is hinted at comes as a surprise, nor should it to any Flyers fan. But it raises huge questions on his integrity.

It'll be interesting to see how the league handles this entire situation, particularly when TSN and CBC get their teeth into it.

Yeah, it basically confirms that he's a dumbass with a whole lot of objectivity issues. That's paired with the fact that I (we) am still not fully recovered from his remarkable interview during the playoffs a couple years ago when he outlined his whole goon v. non-goon philosophy of suspending players.

I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't need biased emails to confirm that Colin Campbell is an incompetent lowlife, or spineless coward as I've referred to him many times in the past. The very fact that he was once offered a job representing this organization is not only an insult to the Flyers themselves, but insults each and every one of us as well.

I'm not surprised one bit.

Like someone else said on the main, this is probably getting swept under the rug.

Maybe, maybe not... if you're a GM around the league, that's a really troubling set of emails. How can you read through that and feel that you are going to get an objective, and fair ruling?

Oh yeah, no doubt. Campbell definitely is a jackass. Didn't need these emails to tell me that. Haha.

hm. i wonder if the real reason richards wasnt suspended for the booth hit was actually because of a grudge against florida, and not because of lack of prior history, etc.

I wonder how much TSN and CBC will say about it. Too much old boys club for them to really get into it, I think. Everyone seems to like him on a personal level and I think they will all wish this could get swept under the rug.
