A pact with PC and another party would be perfect for Harper as he doesn't have to foot the brunt of the decision. And that's exactly how you should be elected.
Not only isn't it confirmed... but it's actually denied...
This is total ********... if they do that the BQ (not PQ, btw) would lost a **** load of vote in the Mtl region...
I don't want a 100% publicly funded arena, period.
Why should that be? Quebec city is in the same province as Montreal I recall. A new arena with federal funding in QC city means more money in the province which is good for Montreal (and everyone in Quebec). Any federal money being spend anywere in the province is a boon. If someone is going to be unhappy its other (mainly western) provinces.
Enough of the municipal warfare already, this is getting absurdly childish
Let the conservatives buy us this arena then lets kick them out anyways. Sounds like a plan
I'm so tired of hearing about that crap. This is the Montreal board, why do we have to get all the info on another city's possible future team? You might as well go on Ottawa's board since it's the Nation's capital.
I was being sarcastic about Ottawa. The fact is there's a forum called "the Business of Hockey" which is meant for stuff like this.
In other news, I heard there's a new condo building being built in Boston. Perhaps we should talk about this here since Boston-Montreal is such a big rivalry.

Nothing close to the Québec-Montréal rivalry.
Last I checked, a new condo isn't a hockey team possibly coming back.
I believe Boston has its own forum!
Not so great at analogies are you... or was it sarcasm yet again?
Would be interesting to see a team in Quebec again but not with any government funding. They want a team, get the local business and future owner to provide the required cash.

Who said it was? For all we know it could be like 10 to 20 million dollars that Harper is willing to give, which is still about 200 mil short of what we need get the construction of the arena going.
The best in the last couple of weeks has been that new investers are interested, leaving Québécor with no choice then to step up or step out.
I honestly wouldn't mind if the federal govt decided to spend a few hundred million dollars on some infrastructure piece in Montreal (or Quebec, or Chicoutimi, or whatever). But it doesn't mean I would vote for the conservatives because they are terrible.
Am I some sort of evil dreadlord because of this opinion?
I'm exasperated to see the gall spewed by some people here whenever ''Quebec'' is mentioned. Even if I trolled this board saying ''Montreal sucks!111 Quebec needs an arena GO NORDIQUES LOL'' my opinion would have nothing to do with ''typical attitude in quebec''.
The savants of this board that are saying people in Quebec ''hate'' Montreal usually base their well researched analysis on things they heard from a dozen drunk guys and from a few real life trolls (people who find your touchy spot and attack it for lolz). For each Montreal ''hating'' guy you'll find a hundred people or two who just don't care much (and since they don't care they won't talk about it. ever heard about the silent majority?). At best some will keep the rivalry ''for fun''. Some actually love Montreal, go there a bunch of times per year but don't move there for all sorts of reason. Quebec city has like 600 000 different opinions on this subject, I'm just sick of the ''us and them'' attitude...
trying to re-create the habs nordiques rivalry is a poor excuse to use 300 million in public funds to build an arena for a privately owned team. the rivalry wouldn't even be close to what it was, given the political landscape of the 70s/80s in quebec.
where are the billionaires who lined up to buy the habs when Gillette was selling?
and what are the chances the winter olympics would actually be held in canada again for the second time in 12 years?

Yet in the US the states give teams arenas for free. To bring them there. Goverments should invest in buildings. Also the father Molson sold the Habs the first time because he was losing his shirt by paying so much taxes on the building every year. That's why nobody in their right minds, any business would buy an arena. It's impossible in this and age.
Nobody should be making a deal with the bloc ever. Harper is going to be branded a traitor by everyone if he does this it makes no sense. He should be doing everything to destroy the bloc not working with them.
Karl Pelideau and Quebecor can build their own damn arena.
This would be a huge mistake by Harper and Charest. If the people of Quebec City want to waste all this money they can do it themselves, don't get the Montreal or the Canadian taxpayer involved.
