Rangers work overtime to Conquer Pittsburgh

Go Lundqvist:

Quote:
"I'd like to see the penalty record the last five years in Pittsburgh," said an annoyed Lundqvist, who was brilliant throughout the match. "We're shorthanded so many times in Pittsburgh and it's definitely not our fault."

He's right. Finally someone said it outloud.

If I didn't have to run to class soon I'd start looking it up, because at this point I too am beyond curious.

Hanks going to get a little visit from some men in black suits(bettman)
No but really the pens have the refs behind the everytime they play us, and not other teams for that matter.

Facts Gents:

So far the Pens are third in the league in penalties (307 minutes) and third in minors (85). They have six more PPs than times shorthanded (86-80).

Tell Lundqvist you won, stop whining. It's never becoming of royalty.

6 powerplays to none is lunacy. Pure lunacy. In this era of tight calls, to have the powerplays this lopsided, is, again, lunacy.

Frankly, that tells me nothing. I'd like to see the amount of penalties called, 1) in Pittsburgh, 2) in the 3rd period, and 3) when Pittsburgh is tied or down a goal. Spouting generalities means absolutely squat, and hardly addresses the matter.

Did you watch the game? If the penalties were called the other way it would be you that would be whining.

Never mind the league totals, you can't seriously have watched that game and thought the calls were equitable. That was the most lopsidedly officiated game I have seen in a very long time.

The Callahan call on Malkin was an absolute disgrace. They need to find a way to crack down on that nonsense.

The hooking call on Gaborik is still bewildering to me, as well.

Why? He fell on Gaboriks stick. If Gaborik didn't try to go after the puck that penalty would have never happened.

Full blame is on Gaborik - he was on the ice with a stick trying to play Hockey. And Callahan, what was he thinking? He hit the puck while Malkin was touching it up against the boards. That would have been a Major if it was Crosby instead of Malkin.

Overall I thought it was Fantastic officiating - Henrik agreed too because he wanted to donate a game played broken stick to the officials, i'm sure he was going to offer to sign it after the game too.

Note : All the above is sarcasm.

If anything, Malkin grabbed Cally with his free arm. Should've been a call on him.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but two more blatant non-calls that stuck out to me were Crosbaby running into Lundqvist, and when DZ was battling in the corner a Pens player went down (forgot who) and was holding onto DZ's stick for a good 5 seconds. I was watching the game online so it went in and out at certain points.

edit: and the call on Gaborik too

The Rangers have some right to be upset at the officiating so far this season...they've had several good goals taken away from them and then to go into a game where you don't get a single PP, I'm sure it's insanely frustrating.

I don't really think there's any conspiracy or anything like that, just bad reffing. And IMO there was bad reffing last night

Rangers were handed 23 penalty miniutes last night.

That's more then 1/3 of the game.

I thought Crosby kicking out Lundqvist's skate was the most egregious. Watch the replay -- he stuck his foot out.

It really, seriously impresses me that the team continued to battle even through all the adversity. That's what gets me real excited about our club, the fact that the chips were down, the officiating was the most horrendous I've ever seen it, and on paper - the team was clearly outmatched... but they still found a way to get the W. I'm not so sure last year's team and certainly not the year before that could get it done. Seriously one of the most satisfying wins I've felt in a long, long time. Here's to hopefully a good showing on Wednesday!

Absolutely. The blatant elbow by Malkin while MDZ was hounding him was pretty bad too, and naturally - unpunished. They seem to have a little rivalry brewing, could be fun for years to come. Dubinsky vs. Crosby, MDZ vs. Malkin, Staal & Lundqvist vs. their offensive output -- totally okay with that.

Since the lockout, in Pittsburgh during the regular season, the Rangers have 10 PP goals, the Penguins have 24.

Rangers PP Goals

Penguins PP Goals

Rangers PIM (114)

Penguins PIM (93)

Makes sense. Cindy taught Malkin how to dive and Malkin tough Cindy how to slew foot.

you havent watched many of our games this year then, right?

last night was a continuation of a very long stretch of officiating fail. deliberate agenda driven fail at that.

and thats worse.
