Don LeGreca is wrong in his rant. Maybe he is the only one interviewing Garth Snow (he's not), but its not an excuse for doing a fluff piece. Don't do the interview if you aren't going to try to find out the answers to the questions that need to be asked. He knows the situation and there are a lot of questions that need to be asked. He didn't ask them.
His attitude seems to be that what they do is only entertainment. Well I ain't listening anymore because I don't tune in to be entertained. I want to learn about whats going on in the NHL.
And EJ Radek is disingenuous too. His talk changes depending on what station he is on. When he was on NHL on the Fly on Sunday he was ripping into Sean Avery. But on NHL Live his tune was totally different.
They are both ******** artists. Whether they realize it or not, I don't know. They probably reconcile their consciences by figuring that its all part of their jobs.
You can't destroy a guy on air because you don't like him or his decisions.
As a reporter/interviewer you are supposed to be neutral with no vested interest.
If you beat Snow or ANY GM or executive up, he never does another interview again.
Our frustrations as fans is fine. We can moan and groan on these kinds of forums. We can boo everytime Snow comes onto the arena ice for something. We can write letters to the editor, rant and rave to our hearts content. But a reporter can't do that!
I don't think anyone is asking them to beat up Snow. Just ask the guy meaningful questions instead of "you know the new coach, right?" "Neidereiter had a good 9 games, right?"
Ask him what is plan is. How long is the interim going to last. Who the candidates might be. What has he been doing to give the coach a better team. If there are no budget constraints why are they struggling to get to the minimum cap. Snow won't answer them all but you have to try.
