He's still 2 drafts away, what kind of offense do you expect in the WHL? With his smarts, puck-handling and skating he has all the tools to be a great offensive/all-around defenseman in the NHL

Well, he had 27 points in 52 games last year or smth like that and he's on that same pace so far this season. I expect that he will have to improve on that pace this season in order for us to keep the Doughty comparisons.

a huge plus/minus doesn't necessarily denote a great defensive player.

I watched Murray play 3 times live last season against the Giants and was very impressed. He has a great skill set and poise for such a young player and showed flashes with a couple of great rushes per game as well. someone else called him a 5-10 pick next year and the other 5 guys must be kick ass as Murray is going to be a great top 1 or 2 Dman in the NHL and PP guy.

My guess is that his coach wants him to play a responsible 2 way game, if they ever wanted to take off the leash he could do most anything he wanted offensively on the ice.

Don't let the stats fool you this kid is the real deal.

Bump.

Anyone wanting to see this kid play on a bigger stage can do so tonight.

He is on Team WHL for tonight's game against the Russians. Should be very entertaining to see how the 16 year old plays against much older competition.

Hopefully fans out west can give us in the west a report on the game.

Also, Murray is 17 this season as he missed the cutoff for the 2011 draft by less than two weeks.

Ok, well technically it would still be considered "his 16 year old season".

Wow, that's all I have to say after watching him play.

He is a ton better offensively than I ever expected. This kid is just a rock back there and didn't look out of place AT ALL. In fact he might have been one of the team WHL's better dmen.

I want to group him in that Myers Erik Johnson category

From the sound of it, he seems to be some top end talent

I watch all of the Silvertips games and he has never once disappointed me. Don't yell at me, but he kind of reminds me of Bobby Orr when he rushes up the ice, he is never out of position, always makes the right play. He has jump started the offense for us a few times by taking the game into his own hands. He is almost always on the 3 stars list if not for points then for effort, he fights when he needs to. He's not gritty, not a big checker, but can push people off the puck. This kid is the real deal! Wouldn't be surprised if he was taken in top 3, I think that he should be top pick IMO.

Get to watch him live tonight in person for the first time. Can't wait.

2012 is going to be an amazing year for defenseman.

Hope he makes the WJCs! A good tournament would surely rocket him to the top spot for 2012.

Came away pretty impressed with him tonight. Reminds me of Duncan Keith, almost to a tee.

Skates pretty well. Isn't overly physical, but can handle it when it comes.

Amazing vision. Great passer and sees guy's open that no one else does.

Great poise with the puck, especially on the PP. Great quarterback.

Good nose for the net as he likes to jump into the rush, or sneak down the back side on the PP to create holes and lanes for teammates.

An above average defender already and is only getting better. There were a few plays tonight where he was walked around by a Blades player, but that's going to happen sometimes with the younger blueliners.

But, the raw talent shows with this kid.

He won't make team Canada this go-round, but I would expect top 4 minutes on the team from him next year, he's that good.

Where would Ryan Murray go in 2011?

This guy was born a couple weeks after Duncan Siemens, yet Siemens is eligible for 2011, Murray 2012. Murray is projected to be a top 3 pick in 2012, but if he was eligible for 2011, where would he go? I think he should be around the level of Siemens, perhaps a bit higher. However, I don't think he would be a top 5 pick in 2011. Thoughts?

Does anyone think he'd go higher than Kitchener's Ryan Murphy?

I think Larsson would still be the best D, then Murphy/Murray would be pretty close. I'd take him over Hamilton and Siemens for sure though.

If I had to rank them:
1. Larsson
2. Murray
3. Murphy
4. Siemens
5. Hamilton.

I would agree with that ranking, depending on team needs of course.
