St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has signed forward David Backes to a five-year contract extension.
in case folks haven't seen, ballard has been a healthy scratch of late. he's an eye-popping -10.
Quote:
I spent five years in the league and had games where I probably should have been a scratch. You don't have the luxury on a good team.
he should've sat at least a half-dozen games last year. there's a long thread on the 'nucks board talking about ballard and how poorly he's been playing, how overrated he is.

Told ya guys. Although, I'd take those comments with a grain of salt. I've seen a couple Nucks games and he was alright TBH. He's just not 4.2M for the next 5 years good.
You guys see Carolina trade Kostopulous and Babchuk to Calgary for Ian White and Brent Sutter? Little surprised he traded Sutter, lol really?, but I think Ian White's a very good defenseman.

sutter needed to get out of town after being charged with assault for punching a cab driver.
EDIT: take that back - bobby mac is reporting that sutter at least claims he was part of the deal before the incident.

How the hell did they do that? That's a steal. The Canes got a lot better on defense. Sutter is the worst GM in the league, idk what happened to him, but he's just terrible now. Phaneuf for Babchuk. lol
Apparently little Sutter got into some kind of bar brawl and spent the night in jail. Maybe it was a wake up call to him?
Edit: Here's the link:
The younger Sutter is getting a fresh start. The trade came roughly a week after the 23-year-old got into a fight outside an Arizona bar and was jailed briefly on suspicion of assault.
Calgary assistant general manager Jay Feaster said the trade was being talked about before that incident.
Anyone else catch Olli's stick to the head on Wojtek Wolski? Apparently, Olli's got a call with the commish today and could get suspended ala Briere. Luckily Wolski was able to get up and didn't look too badly hurt. But when I saw Olli's stats on the season - 2 goals - plus this incident, I'm kind of happy we didn't sign him now.

Isn't that what Briere got too? Regardless, things not looking so good for old pumpkinhead.
he's just a really sad character now. what a disaster. i can't even hate him anymore, despite the fact he's still a *****bag and a lousy hockey player. i told you guys he should've gone to the KHL.
Man, Buff's been insane for Atlanta, and Ladd's been very good, too. Wish we could've landed them from Chicago instead. Don't remember what the Thrash gave up for em, though.

Byfuglien, Eager, Sopel and a prospect for 1st rounder, 2nd rounder, Marty Reasoner, Joey Crabb, and Jeremy Morin.
Well, we certainly going to send that, but those two are leading the team in scoring. And Byfuglien is just tearing it up! Seems the playoffs woke up the beast.

Buff is better as a d-man, Atlanta made the right call there. I thought that was gonna be a mistake, but he's killing it.
