No wonder he's improved so much, with a lofty reward like that awaiting.

4th in the conference at this moment.
Pretty thrilled considering the obstacles we've faced so far this season.

How much is Torts and how much is just the natural maturation of our players, I can't say.
But, I certainly credit the man with making this team enjoyable to watch again.

Nay. I am not a fan of his style, still. He is no longer a detriment he was, true, but I don't give him much of the credit. The credit for recent survival should go to goaltending. Lundqvist has been remarkable and Biron was very good.

the style and system is only half the battle

i'd argue the exectuion is even more important

and Torts has the whole team executing his system pretty well

and as good as the goaltending has been, i think this is one instance where that's NOT the main reason we've been getting by

its been team play, focus, and effort...and a lot of credit has to be given to the coach for that

On the other hand some could credit him with helping develop some of these players, like Anisimov, giving Dubinsky the chance to grow into a more suitable role, Boyle, etc.

Seems like Tortorella made a concerted effort to work better with his players this year as well, though distractions also seem to be fewer than they were last year

torts' whole demeanor is better. his approach seems to be more thoughtful and his coaching seems to reflect that. i dont find myself disagreeing with him as much- both on the ice and off it.

that makes him more legit to me and the fact that the team is winning and how they are winning makes me believe that the two are related.

having dubi, boyle and biron step up big time isnt hurting either.

How many goals do Lundqvist and Biron have?

How many have they stopped that should've gone in? Not all is credited to them, but they have been lights out. Keeping the GA down has kept them in games.

I must agree with you here. As good as the goaltending has been, I've been more impressed with the team's ability to score goals, especially when Gabby was out.

7th in the league in goals per game, 13th for goals against per game. I thought this team would struggle to score goals once again, but thus far it hasn't been an issue.

Scoring starts and ends with goaltending.

Tort's looks completely different this year. He's a lot more composed. I thinka fter a year seeing what the NY media was like and how it needs to be treated, he has really turned it around.

he also has this team playing and believing in this system. They are executing well. The kids(Dubinsky, Callahan, Boyle, AA, Giradri, Staal) are buying in as well. Having great goaltending is key to this system's overall success and Hank and Biron are definitely doing their part.

Definitely agree with this. Hank stood on his head the other night just to give the team a chance to win.
