Franchise Player Poll: #8 Colorado

Adding the 4th forward was the popular choice so I added it just for the Avs.

1) You are voting for the franchise player who will receive a 4 year, 24 million dollar "franchise player" contract. Everyone else will be a UFA, including prospects so who you don't vote for will be on sale to the highest bidder. This WILL NOT count against the cap and the player can not be traded.

2) Player will play all 82 games for that 4 year span and goalies will start 65+ games a season. Basically the player will be immune to injury for 4 years.

Anaheim: JS Giguere (49%)
Atlanta: Ilya Kovalchuk (64%)
Boston: Joe Thornton (95%)
Buffalo: Thomas Vanek (40%)
Calgary: Jarome Iginla (92%)
Carolina: Eric Staal (81%)
Chicago: Tuomo Ruutu (92%)
Colorado:
Columbus: Rick Nash (89%)

If that's the case, I'll go with Forsberg every single time.

I voted Sakic without thinking about it.
still very close, but I'd go with Forsberg because of that rule.

I voted Sakic not seeing that. I wonder, does that mean retirement-proof also?:

I voted for Forsberg because the player would play all 82 games. If not I would of voted for Sakic.

Forsberg by a nose. For once we have an interesting decision to make. I only choose Forsberg because he's four years younger than Burnaby Joe.

If Peter Forsberg could play 82 games injury free...it just isn't a very tough choice who to pick.

Not many guys I would take ahead of Sakic in the described scenario, but Forsberg's one of them.

Forgot about that. I'd probably switch from Hejduk to Forsberg but my other concern with Forsberg is what if he decides he wants to go play in Sweden after 1 or 2 years. Can he opt out of the contract? If not you'd be stuck with an unhappy franchise player.

Agreed. If I can have Forsberg for 82 games I'm not sure there is anyone I'd take over him.
